Ikea high chair

So after having a quick look at high chairs and seeing you can spend an absolute fortune if you want to I’ve just ordered the Ikea antilop for just £12!!
So what’s the catch? - I’ve read some glowing reviews! Anyone have this high chair? What are your thoughts?

We used one. The tray is a pure bitch to remove but overall it was better than the previous highchair that had too many nooks and crannies for food to get stuck in

GrumpySausage · 15/05/2020 09:32

They're great. I was given a different highchair when I first had DS and it was rubbish-bulky, awkward to put up and got grubby so quickly.

I bought an IKEA one and it's still being used 4 years later with DD. It's easy to keep clean, legs pop off easy and I've put it in the dishwasher a few times after memorable spaghetti meals.

AllTheCakes · 15/05/2020 09:40

It works perfectly. The mighty Ikea didn’t try to over complicate the design resulting in a perfectly functional item.

mommybear1 · 15/05/2020 10:54

It's fab no catch it is brilliant the tray to start with is hard to get off but once you have the knack you'll be fine. Mine even fitted in our dishwasher every piece- brilliant Grin

Mumof1andacat · 15/05/2020 11:00

No catch. Best high chair. Easy to clean.

Fairylillie · 15/05/2020 11:04

It doesn't have a five point harness so watch out for your toddler trying to climb out the top. The tray is hard to get off when you first get it but it gets easier. It doesn't fold up so I'm always tripping over the back legs (small kitchen).

Sweetandawfulsour · 15/05/2020 11:05

I had the same doubts. The dreaded red sauce stain is so easily wiped away. Fits under the dining table perfectly. The little one does stick to it in the hot weather which makes me cringe but it’s honestly my second favourite baby purchase Blush

mynameiscalypso · 15/05/2020 11:13

No catch really; some experts say it's better for babies to have a foot rest which it during have and, like PP, I find myself tripping over it quite often as the legs stick out a bit. It's also an annoying height for our dining table but I appreciate that's not Ikea's fault.

mynameiscalypso · 15/05/2020 11:14

Foot rest...which it doesn't have

dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 11:23

This looks similar but has a better harness and a footrest

Obsessed with our Ikea high chair! It's so so easy to clean and breaks down to nothing when you want to store or take it anywhere!

No catch, enjoy OP :)

RubyDreamsOfRainbows · 15/05/2020 14:05

I got one off Gumtree for £8. It's fine, no foot support which some littleuns benefit from to support their posture which also helps their concentration etc.

You can't get the tray off at all easily, our table is high enough for the tray to slide under so we do that but if you can leave the tray off and just pull them up to the table. 👍

TheCraicDealer · 15/05/2020 14:14

You can buy a footrest for it from third party suppliers- I've seen hard ones on Etsy, and a "sling" style on Instagram. When the whole highchair is less than £20 you can afford to buy a footrest separately if you think you need one. Make sure you get the inflatable insert as well, makes it more snug and less sliding about.

I have a hauck Alpha for DD which is basically a copy of the Stokke Tripp Trapp. It looks nicer but the Ikea one (which I have for visits from my neice and nephew) is easier to clean and DD seems to sit more upright in it.

BakewellGin1 · 15/05/2020 14:15

I don't think it has a 5 point harness?
I got a very similar one from Asda - also £12, same sort of design... No issues with it, DS has been using it 6 months and as yet hasn't escaped from it or tipped it etc.
Easy to clean and so on

therewillbelies · 15/05/2020 14:28

Best high chair ever. It does come with a harness although we never used it. It's perfect height for most standard tables so your child can sit at the table with you.

2007Millie · 15/05/2020 17:45

I am one of the few who hated it

BingPot720 · 15/05/2020 17:48

It's definitely easier to clean than the cushioned all singing all dancing models, but the footprint is HUGE, I didn't find it easy in small rooms at all.

Direwolfwrangler · 15/05/2020 17:59

We loved ours. They are so cheap with bought extras for the grandparent’s houses. The other bonus is that many restaurants and cafes have them so they are familiar when you go out.

Selfsettling3 · 15/05/2020 18:02

It’s easy to trip over the legs. I love it, it’s easy to clean which is the most important thing.

SquigglyOne · 15/05/2020 18:58

Thanks for the responses everyone - I thought for the sake of £12 it was worth a try at least!

Dont forget the cushion to go with it.

mynameiscalypso · 15/05/2020 22:46

We have a cushion but I've never used it; should I be? DS doesn't seem to care and it just seems like something more to clean!
