What do you give your 1 year old for breakfast?

Looking for some ideas for breakfast, so far she’s been having Ella’s kitchen porridge most of the time, and toast this week as it’s been warmer but she’s not been napping or sleeping at night very well, and it might just be coincidence but she slept loads better today after she’d had a bigger breakfast. (Toast and low salt sausage and beans).

I don’t want to be giving her that every day so I need some inspiration for simple breakfasts, because all the ideas I’ve found so far online are full of insta/Pinterest type nonsense!

Mine always has banana pancakes or eggs.

Kittykat93 · 17/04/2020 19:22

I normally do a bowl of cereal and some fruit or toast and fruit. Mines 2 and quite fussy now but things like scrambled eggs and beans can be nice and filling and a change from the usual.

DressingGownofDoom · 17/04/2020 19:23

When my DS was that age it would have been ready brek on waking with fruit and maybe a bottle of milk. Then pancake and banana at half 10 for mid morning snack.

Now he's 3 and fussy it's dry Cheerios or an oaty bar and smoothy first thing. And just toast mid morning.

Avocado or peanut butter on toast is a good choice.

twinboymumma · 17/04/2020 19:24

My twins have had banana porridge for as long as I can remember. Are they eating enough at each meal and still drinking milk and/or having snacks?

kayakingmum · 17/04/2020 19:24

I'm in a similar boat so want to follow the thread. My almost 10 month old doesn't sleep that well at night.

In the morning I give him baby porridge with a bit of yoghurt in it.

Sunny345H · 17/04/2020 19:24

I have a sugar free banana bread that I bake then cut in slices and keep in the freezer and give that to my son as a change to toast and porridge. Can post the recipe if you're interested.

HarrietM87 · 17/04/2020 19:24

Mine has a massive bowl of porridge every day with a different fruit grated or mixed in each day. We alternate apple/pear/banana/blueberry/raspberry (the berries are frozen and just stir in when cooking). He loves it. He’s 2 now but has had this nearly every day since weaning!

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 19:26

All sorts... weetabix, pancakes, peanut butter on toast, Greek yoghurt with fruit, brioche, cheese and ham with croissants, sausages and beans, scrambled eggs, omelette etc. Whatever the 6 and 4 year olds are having.

ScarfLadysBag · 17/04/2020 19:27

Porridge (sometimes with fruit), pancakes, fruit salad, scrambled egg and toast, peanut butter on toast, weetabix.

ScarfLadysBag · 17/04/2020 19:28

Oh and at weekends she shares in our fry-up, so fried egg, sausages, toast, etc

rottiemum88 · 17/04/2020 19:31

Weetabix usually followed by a yogurt, then has a pancake with fruit for mid morning snack. We try to align with the routine he has at nursery as much as possible

Skigal86 · 17/04/2020 19:31

@Chiyo666 I do love a banana pancake (or three!) I just always think of them as a treat or weekend breakfast!

@Sunny345H recipe would be fab, something I can just take out the freezer and defrost would be perfect!

@twinboymumma she eats pretty much everything that’s put in front of her, and is gaining weight but she’s started walking in the last couple of weeks so I’m very conscious that as she’s walking more and more she’ll need more to keep her going. I think I need to get her snacking more. She has 8oz milk when she wakes up and same before bed.

Oh and she doesn’t like scrambled egg! Loves omelettes but we have them for lunch quite a bit.

Ready brek or weetabix were probably what mine had at that age

Sunny345H · 17/04/2020 20:03

3 large ripe bananas, mashed
60g plain yoghurt
125ml milk (or coconut water for extra sweetness)
3 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
210g plain flour
115g ground almonds
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon bicorbonate soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 180 degrees
Mix banana, yoghurt, milk, eggs and vanilla in a bowl
In a seperate bowl mix the rest of the ingredients
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until combined and smooth
Bake for around 20 mins until golden and a skewer comes out clean.

Recipe reccommends using 2 8 inch sandwich tins but I use a loaf tin and bake at 160 degrees for about 35 mins.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/04/2020 20:09

Mine has porridge - 1/3 cup of oats, 2/3 cup of milk, 4 odd minutes in a pan - and either a banana or blue berries while it’s cooking and cooking. She loves it, I always have oats in and it’s easy and filling. She likes pancakes and eggs but I tend to do those for other meals.

ohwerehalfwaythere · 17/04/2020 20:11

@kayakingmum baby porridge is usually just wheat powder rather than oats so it's not filling for them. Try regular porridge instead c

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/04/2020 13:43

Mine liked a cinnamon bagel and butter, blueberry pancakes (we all love them here) or weetabix with chopped banana. Oh and DD has always been a huge fan of eggy bread.

How about beans and sausage? Just cut the sausage lengthways first to reduce the risk of choking Smile

GemmeFatale · 18/04/2020 14:08

Fruit, toast (low salt marmite, butter, peanut butter all popular topping wise), egg (hard boiled best as he likes finger foods). Sometimes we might switch the toast for hot cross bun. The fruit varies in type but is the thing he gets first while we sort the rest.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/04/2020 14:36

Forgot Ready Brek, they loved this and both had it a lot.

Snowpaw · 04/05/2020 19:51

My 18 month old has such a hearty appetite in the morning. I always give her some kind of carb / protein plus fruit combo eg
Boiled egg, toast and strawberries
Tinned sardines, weetabix, pear
Peanut butter, porridge and raisins
Sausage, weetabix, tinned pineapple

She really loves the tinned sardines! So cheap and quick. Bit unusual I know but super healthy and good for brain development.

Megan2018 · 04/05/2020 19:55

We are only 7.5 months but have

Greek yoghurt and berries
Toast with nut butter
Omlette
Scrambled egg on toast
Crumpet with butter and fruit
Weetabix
Pancakes when I can be arsed (rare)

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 04/05/2020 19:56

Mine is 10 months, but he has porridge, crumpets, weetabix, fruit toast, normal toast, boiled eggs, banana pancakes etc.
He had bits of a cooked breakfast the other weekend. Beans went EVERYWHERE!

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/06/2020 12:37

Dried Cheerios 🙄, sometimes soak shredded wheat in milk then put them on his tray, Bagel, scrambled eggs and pancakes some weekends as have more time, toast, banana,
