Milk at 12 months

Hi, DS is coming up to 12 months and currently Formula fed. I know he can have cows milk at one, but he isn't the best with eating solids, and I'm worried /wondering if he will get enough nutrition from cows milk, or if he may be better on formula until he takes to food better?

Any advice? He currently has around 35oz of formula a day average (I know!), which is cut down from the 50-60 he was guzzling. But even if I miss a bottle he doesn't eat any more solids than if he's had one. He will eat fruit pouches and yoghurt (and melty sticks) all day, but very hit and miss on savoury meals. Half a pouch is good going once a day for him, and he refuses anything I've made for him 🙈.

Thanks in advance

Seriously dont worry. They are all different. My first daughters diet was based soley on milk until she went to school. Could not get her to each much at all and she was a big baby. My second daughter virtually the opposite and my son inbetween. Please dont stress. Cows milk has lots of vital nutrients and my first daughter did very well on it however if you want to keep your child on formula then do so. There is no right or wrong and what works for one child does not work for another. Your doing a great job x

Could you give him a multivitamin and switch over? It will save you a heck of a lot of money and he will be fine.

Could you cut out some of his bottles too? At 11 months they only need 13.5 floz, going down to 10 floz at 12 months.

At the moment he's probably not eating because he's getting all of his calories from the milk.

I would try getting him up in the morning and offering breakfast before a bottle. Maybe give him a small cup of formula to go with his breakfast if it will make it easier for you? Smile

@Dontsayfuckorbugger Thank you. That's really made me feel better! Its one less thing to worry about at the moment!

@JiltedJohnsJulie he already has his breakfast first in the morning, a bowl of yoghurt /baby breakfast/ rusk/porridge etc with fruit and a wafer type snack. Then he wants a bottle in another 2 hours max, 8oz normally. I'm trying to cut him back, but at the same time I'm not going to leave him hungry. He has a multi vitamin drop daily already, the sure start ones from the health visitor. Has another 8oz before his nap around 12pm, then I try lunch around 2pm- very hit and miss, and he has another 6oz around 4pm, Dinner around 6pm, again hit and miss, then he wants anything from 11-16oz before bed!

He's on 99th+ centiles for height and weight, and he's been walking over a month and is very active, so I guess he needs the calories?! And I think he's too busy with everything to concentrate on eating! 🙈

Ok so could you swap the bottle 2 hours after his breakfast for a snack and a drink?

Is he in the same centile for height too?

Kcoffecakebubs · 13/04/2020 22:28

Yes he's over the 99th line for both weight and height

That's good then, he's in proportion which is lovely Smile
