9 Month old - fresh strawberries

I am debating whether I have to peel the seeds off the strawberries before mashing them to give to my son cold or do I even have to boil em before mashing and let cool down before giving them to him as part of his weaning diet

If he’s 9 months old just chop them up and give them to him. Why would you need to mash them?

Hill1991 · 13/04/2020 08:01

Just chop them up in manageable bite sizes no need to pick the seeds out it boil them they should already be soft enough for little one to chew through

Figgyroles · 13/04/2020 08:02

Just give them whole so he can hold and stuck them.

motortroll · 13/04/2020 08:03

Just cut off the stalk.

AlphaIndigo · 13/04/2020 08:04

Just wash and chop.

RhymingRabbit3 · 13/04/2020 08:06

You're definitely overthinking this! He's not going to choke on the minuscule strawberry seeds. Strawberries are soft you wouldnt even need to mash them for a 9 month old really, just give them as finger food.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/04/2020 08:07

Just give him the whole strawberry minus the stem

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/04/2020 08:08

Absolutely no need to mash

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/04/2020 11:04

I would cut the stalk off, quarter if they are big, put in a bowl and give them to him.

Never heard of anyone taking the seeds off, boiling or maxing at 6 months, never mind 9. Is he a PFB by any chance? Grin

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 13/04/2020 11:06

Should be on finger food now

NannyR · 13/04/2020 11:06

Strawberries are perfect finger food, I've weaned lots of babies and never cooked or mashed strawberries, never mind peeling the seeds.

daisypond · 13/04/2020 11:09

Definitely don’t mash them or cut the seeds off. He is nine months! It will inhibit his development.

Scubalubs87 · 13/04/2020 11:11

My son was eating strawberries whole at that age - just the stalks cut off. No need to mash at all. Just cut the top off and cut into quarters. My son was a pig so giving him bigger finger foods stopped him shoving loads in his mouth at once and forced him to bite and chew - hence, whole strawberries.

Daddy305 · 13/04/2020 11:17

Thanks he just been a bit slow at weaning where he hasn't really chewed his food he tends to still just swallow straight away

I'd still just quarter them. Mashing Amy make much of a difference.

RhymingRabbit3 · 13/04/2020 12:08

He wont learn to chew if everything is always mashed for him. Something like strawberry is great because if he tries to swallow it he will just gag and learn that he cant swallow things whole, but it's not hard or small so he wont choke.

NeverHadANickname · 13/04/2020 12:19

My 6 month old has sliced strawberries. He will get there eventually with the chewing, just needs to practice.
