DS is 6 months today, suppose I'm going to have to start feeding him solids <sigh>...

...I just can't be bothered. Is it just me? He still seems too little to eat solids (total nonsense as he's HUGE)

he's just had breastmilk so far (oh, apart from all the paracetemol, bonjela and teething powders of course - his eyes light up when he sees the spoon and the paracetemol bottle so maybe he's actually already weaned!)

anyhow, I suppose I'll be BLWing cos I really can't be arsed with purees.

How come everyone else seems mad keen to start shoving solids into their babies and I just can't face it? surely I'm not alone...

also I reckon as soon as DD twigs he's eating, it'll be open season on cramming all sorts into his mouth

ROFL. just keep bfing him then until he starts gnawing at your inner arm.

MrsJohnCusack · 08/09/2007 10:36

that'll be what happens at this rate

am looking at the BLW blog apathetically

he's getting good at grabbing stuff so I think he'll just help himself fairly soon - his eyes pop out of his head at the sight of food. If I'd gone with that rubbish 'if he watches food with interest' reason for weaning he'd have been on solids at about 5 weeks

how can he be 6 months old though. HOW?????

I keep thinking of him as 'the newborn' and then suddenly noticing that he can do all sorts of things.

I also found weaning a PITA! Especially as DD just didn't seem that bothered. My friends babies would all be greedily opening their mouths at the sight of a spoon, while DD just pecked at whatever I offered her and bowl after bowl of food ended up in the bin!

Did a mixture of BLW and purees, and although I usually felt as if more was getting eaten with purees, I definitely think that giving her food to play with and investigate (and maybe eat a little) helped get her interested.

Wasn't until she was about 11 mo that she was really into solids. Now we're sharing meals and both enjoying the whole thing a lot more!

I can't even remember doing it with DD It was only just over 2 years ago...I have a feeling she ate everything in sight now

am hoping that seeing DS eating some veg might encourage her to consider eating green stuff again

You are not alone! DD 5.5 months and all we get from friends and family is 'when are you going to start weaning her.' Some RL friends are already weaning and seem really excited about it but to me it just seems like an enormous PITA.
I really like just going out with no equipment or worries about when its mealtime. I am lazy and couldn't organise the proverbial in a brewery so not looking forward to it at all. Even buying a highchair fills me with dread and the mess, the disappointment as she turns her nose up at my lovingly steamed carrot what's to like??

puffylovett · 11/09/2007 21:15

oh your def not alone, and i'm glad to find someone else who feels the same as me !

was thinking i'm a v naughty mummy for finding any excuse not to give him any solids.

today my excuse is that he's been waking more during the night due to having tummy ache due to the green beans he's been sucking on, so today he's just been b-fed. which has suited me nicely as i couldn't be bothered to cook.

TheBlonde · 11/09/2007 21:18

I am just getting started on this too

The sitting baby in the high chair while DS eats is good. Some rice cakes got gnawed today but it just seems such a faff

I felt the same way when gecko turned 6 months. I held off until she grabbed a peice of broccoli off my plate and crammed it in her mouth
Now she just tries to grab everything I'm eating off my plate or out of my mouth lol
She has had broccoli, toast, roast pots, macaroni cheese, ice cream, yoghurt, prawn crackers...
I did soon some yoghurt in but only because she was trying to steal off her sister and I didn't want the mess of just handing her the pot lol
