Advice for a 7mo reluctant eater

Hello
Please hit me up with any tips/advice/reassurance for a 7mo girl who is not fussed by solids at all. Background - she has been exclusively breastfed up to now and has never taken a bottle either - just wont have it!

We started her on lumpy spoonfuls at 6 ms and she soon lost interest and won’t open her mouth for the spoon. We were told by health visitor that BF babies often prefer to feed themselves so I have now been trying BLW for almost a month. Occasionally she puts the finger food in her mouth, chews and swallows one bite - but that’s all!! I’ve seen on my local health visitors website 7mo babies should be having 250cal a day from food ?!! Whaaaaat !

I’m also finding it a bit upsetting as she took to BF so well I thought she’d love food and I’m serving up things for her about often she doesn’t even touch it ☹️

Thanks !

Make sure that you give her a bit of time before offering solids after a full feed—an hour or so--to develop a bit of an appetite. On the other hand, you want to make sure that she isn’t too hungry when she comes to the table—it may actually deter her from trying new foods.
Teething can cause discomfort so it is normal that they don’t feel like eating during this period.
Try having someone else feed her. Try feeding her at different times during the day. Try feeding her in different settings — it could be that a small change like this prompts her to get interested in eating. Also make sure she’s not too distracted.
If all else fails, don’t be afraid to give up for a few weeks. This isn’t a battle to be won, after all, and if she senses your frustration (or desperation!) she may be even less inclined to eat. Instead, take a break and try again later. You might be surprised at the difference a few weeks makes!

I don't think any of my children really got enthusiastic about solids until they were about 9 months. Even then they were 1+ before they were eating anything you could call a meal.

I've never heard the 250 calorie thing before, the most important thing if you are breastfeeding is to build up their iron stores which can be done with a multivitamin.

Just try not to worry about it, what they do/ don't do when weaning has little bearing on the rest of their lives.
