Can I try a sippy cup now?

DD has just turned 5 months and FF.

She holds her own bottles but only when she’s laying down.

I bought her a sippy cup today and was thinking of putting a bit of formula milk in there to give it a try but is this too early? I don’t mind her making a mess.

I usually introduce it at six months when they start weaning. I use it just for water. It takes them a couple of months to get the hang of it but as they start eating more food and cut down on their milk, they start to drink more water. I find the very simple, flip top beakers from tommee tippee are best.

Highly recommend the munchkin cup. Would keep to milk in bottle and water in cup at this age though to prevent confussion

The ages are just a guide. If you feel you want try then go for it. We used the sippy cups for just water though and introduced it when giving her food to get her used to having water as a drink at meal times.

Thanks all. I gave her it just to try and put a bit of formula in it although next time I’ll use water. She sort of seemed to get the hang of it.

My second refused the bottle and the health visitor said there’s no reason they can’t use a sippy cup from 3 months if they’ll take it.
