I'm in the early weeks of weaning my daughter this is a typical day.
Morning Milk feed 6oz then wait about an hour and she has a tablespoon worth of porridge.

Mid morning milk feed 6oz

Lunch she will have a tablespoon worth of vegetable puree

Afternoon milk feed 6oz

Tea time I try and give her a bit of puree vegetable or fruit but she doesn't really want it.

Tea time milk feed 6oz

Then bath

Evening milk feed 6oz

She's not eating much should she be eating more than this? And should I give her food before milk?

What age is she? I didn't give food before milk during weaning

dementedpixie · 17/06/2019 15:30

If you've just started weaning then you don't need to be giving 3 meals already

Lottiebugz22 · 17/06/2019 16:00

She's 6 months and a couple of weeks.

For the first month (or two weeks at least), just offer solids once a day and continue feeding milk as often as before. At about 7mo, add solids as her appetite increases, a few mouthfuls at a time, after her usual feed until she shows signs of fullness; i.e. turning her head, closing her mouth, batting at the spoon, spitting the food out, etc. (trying to feed past this point is overfeeding). Most babies will balance their milk intake with their solid food intake well if you feed in this way.
All you need to do is to continue to offer foods. Don’t worry if she’s not interested or takes very small amounts. Your only true responsibility is what you offer and when you offer it, not whether or not she eats it. That has to be up to her.
Sometimes mothers can feel pressured into limiting feeds so that their baby will take more solid food but this can have the opposite effect. If your dd is happy and content after a feed she may be more open to the idea of trying some new foods.
Solids during the first year are only meant to complement milk feeds, not take precedence over it or replace any. It is more of a way to add textures to their diet, to allow new experiences, and to help her develop hand/eye coordination through finger feeding.

Is it ok if DS is eating more? He hasn't reduced milk feeds at all, he has a feed at 7:30 just milk, 11 he has fruit or veg, today he had blended broccoli with oregano textured, not smooth, but no big chunks 75g, full fat Greek yoghurt 50g and some water (some days he has porridge and might have yoghurt later in the day), 12 o'clock full breast feed 3;30 60g mashed pear and some water, 4pm breast feed, 7:25pm long breast feed then bed. I did a while day of expressed BM last week to see how much he's drinking and it's about 210-240ml per feed 4 times a day, which I think is about 30 ounces! He sleeps from around 8pm to 6:30-7am and is consistently just under the 50th centile line. He is very active does not like to sit still and is just starting to kind of crawl in a haphazard way. Is he eating too much? He never refuses the food and will eat savoury and sour not just sweet, I think if I offered more solids he'd eat them but I don't want to over feed him, we've had no tummy trouble. He's seven months at the end of the month but was a bit early (36 weeks) so will be 6 months adjusted. HV said fine to wean at six months not adjusted as he's hitting milestones for his non adjusted age.

All the food is homemade

At that age you can add in more protein e.g. meat, cheese, etc. You can also give pasta, rice, bread, etc. There arent many calories in fruit and veg
