Feeling totally lost

My DD is now 9 months. I'm still breastfeeding and she started solids at 6 months but I'm feeling totally lost with the weaning process.

I'm also not sure if she is teething at the moment but every 3/4 days is chewing on her hands and making an ahhhh noise at me!

I feel lost in what to give her for lunch and dinner... apart from purée carrot and pumpkin which she loves. I feel like I'm making seperate food for her and it's going to waste. I'm also feeling like I'm failing at getting everything done with one eye in the clock for her next nap - which I still breastfeed to sleep for! She's been a good sleeper since she was a newborn - but recently in all over the place. Does anyone/did anyone else feel like this at 9 months in?

I aim for bedtime at 730 but it ends with her crying in between and finally going down at 8ish...she'll wake after 40 mins and we start the process again. She does have good nights sleeping - she did 8pm to 8pm the other day but then others she won't settle till midnight!

Naps vary of 90 mins to 2 hours at 11amish or 30/40 mins only .

I don't know if I'm doing anything right anymore... I'm lost

Oh my I am totally in the same boat and would love to have some help.

Our sleep isn't anywhere near as good as yours! We've never done anything more than 2 hours and she's the same age! BF to sleep and day time naps are 30 mins max. She's happy though and that's the main thing.

Weaning - we don't do BLW really, she will hold stuff and suck but most that goes down is spoon fed. Porridge is really our only meal. We try other stuff but it isn't liked most the time. Kind of lost heart with it as Doug separate stuff, blending and goes to waste so just trying odd bits from our meals and hoping she will catch on to it soon.

Also a first time mum :-)

I think you're doing fine btw. If there's anything I've learnt from being a first time Mum, it's that every baby is different and you've got to go with your own flow. Looking forward to seeing what others say on this though to try with us too

Oh you poor loves. We had exactly this situation with my first. It's a horrible phase, but it is just a phase. DD finally started actually eating food properly at about 11 months, she is now 3.5 and eats everything. Please be gentle on yourselves.
And remember baby's Tummy is still so very tiny, and as long as they're still taking their milk feeds they'll be absolutely fine.

It is a minefield! It really is!
Did you breastfeed for 12 months?

Wth teething I find I get a few good days and then suddenly she doesn't want to go down in her cot...after the night before rocking her head side to side to settle herself and goodnight mum!!

Mashed potato I have found to be a no!!!it caused terrible gas and no poop for a few days!!!!

I'm actually still breastfeeding at 3.5years, tandem feeding with my 6wk old.
Banana I remember being caused some very odd Nappies, like thin black strings. And the day I discovered that raisins can come out whole and entire, having absorbed liquid and look almost like grapes in the poo.

Jennyfirsttimemum · 16/05/2019 05:04

That is fantastic! 3.5 years! Well done you! That's such an awesome achievement. I'm hoping to continue breastfeeding till 18 months...I might go longer!

Yes I've found banana causes a lot of wind!

I really think she's teething at the moment. Had a better night last night - although it was still a later bedtime : 10.30pm. She woke at 1am for 25 mins and then slept through to 8.30am

Nap today has been a lot better - 2hours although I think she's catching up on sleep!

Shall see how tonight goes!

Any other tips on weaning / food / recipes much appreciated.

I'm feeling a little lost still!!!!

Thanks! I never really had a goal as such, I just haven't stopped iyswim! When DD was about 1 or so I really struggled so I night weaned her, and I stopped feeding her out of the house around the time she turned 3.

I find it helpful to have a combination of pre-prepared, partly prepared and ingredients for weaning.

So if I'm in the mood I can make lovely family food from scratch, but if I'm in a hurry or not in the mood there's something for the oven, hob or microwave.

I used to make toast or cereal for breakfast at that age, then for one of the other meals (usually lunch) Id get the finger foods out, and then the last one mashed up food that the family was having or pouch/jar.

If teething could you try rusks or bickiepegs?

Jennyfirsttimemum · 17/05/2019 13:35

What food was a win for you?

I remember this.. You spend ages prepping and nothing much is eaten. It's just part of the process, keep offering.

Try some foods that will help the teething too.. like cucumber sticks, carrot sticks.. nice and soothing on gums.

Freeze bits of your meals for another day. E.g. freeze spag bol, cottage pies then if you have a meal baby can't have your don't have to prep 2 meals.

Try easier things like omelette, toast fingers, raspberries where there's little prep.

So for a few weeks now I've been doing the following...

Wake 8/8.30
Breastfeed on wake up
9.30 breakfast- which is weetabix mixed with some formula milk...with a fruit purée , usually apple or pear

Snack around 10.30 .. apple/ fruit or rusk

Lunch 1/1.30 (depending on how nap goes... often does 90 mins at around 11.30/12) ... toast fingers and avocado, raspberries and Greek yogurt....

Dinner 5.30... veggies...chicken.... small version of what we're having....pasta....

DD is now 10 months. Finger foods are going better now.... she doesn't eat a lot and some still ends up on the floor! Boob is still the preferred choice - although I'm slowly offering breakfast first thing instead of boob.

Any thoughts much appreciated xx

I feel totally lost with weaning! My nearly 9 month old daughter is breastfed and isn't showing any interest in eating solids. She has always been a bit if a snacker in regards to breastfeeding as in she will feed for about 5 minutes every 3 hours and I'm finding it hard to fit solids in around this and naps!

londonmummy2019 · 15/06/2019 12:52

Do you feed to sleep? I find I'm trying to get the naps in and fit lunch in too! Sometimes lunch doesn't happen at all!!! Because she's napped late...for longer!!!
I'm sure it will get easier...

What does your little one eat for breakfast?

Dandelion89 · 15/06/2019 13:46

She feeds to sleep about half the time I'd say. It's so hard isn't it? I feel like weaning is taking over our life haha.
I give her weetabix and oat milk which she enjoys. She is allergic to milk, soy and eggs which makes things a bit tricky.
I've just tried lunch there with very little success. She just doesn't seem to want it and is still having issues with lumps.
