Reflux worsened by dairy 8 month old

Can anyone advise on how best to try and wean an 8 month old (breastfed) with severe reflux which seems to be worsened when I have dairy in my diet? Should I introduce dairy in his diet gradually or avoid until his digestive system is more mature? Are there dietary plans more tailored to a reflux-y baby that can be recommended, as he seems to be worse after certain fruits also? Thanks

Have you spoke to your health visitor about this? They can point you in right direction.

Yes, speak to HV/GP. Both my refluxers were dairy intolerant. The eldest couldn't have Soya, egg or wheat either, which made weaning rather a challenge.

Keep a food diary of symptoms so you can try to identify if any foods are triggers. When mine were young, I was able to get a referral to a paediatric dietitian so you could ask for that. Not sure if it's still possible.

If dairy has seemed a problem, then you can be cautious about introducing it, although best to follow medical advice. If there is a problem, there are many alternatives that can be used in weaning. Alpro do a soya milk especially for toddlers, although bear in mind children with dairy intolerance often also have problems with soya. I always used oat milk for mixing with foods.

In my case, both DC had grown out of any intolerance by the age of 2.

Have a read of this on Kellymom and see if any of it sounds familiar OP Smile

Thank you guys so much for your input. I've mentioned it to my son's public health nurse and family practitioner, but they've been quite dismissive because it doesn't appear to be an allergy allergy - no bowel change/weight loss/rash etc - it more seems like an intolerance, and so the advice has been 'see how it goes, introduce things gradually'. I guess we will just have to do that, keeping a food diary sounds helpful thanks very much.
