11 month old - finger food

Hi everyone. I added a comment to an older thread but thought it would be better to start a new one.

My 11 month old boy refuses to eat any form of finger food. He will hold onto it but when you try to put it towards his month he tenses up and won’t move his arm. He just has no interest in it.

He is the same with his sippy cup. He also doesn’t put toys in his mouth or finger. He does however suck his thumb so I know he can put things in his mouth!

He is fine with lumps in his food just not dry finger food i.e won’t eat cut up fruit but will eat it if I mix it into a yoghurt (if that makes sense).

He’s my 3rd child but the other two took to finger food fine so not used to having issues!

TIA

What happens if you place a bowl of something soft in front of him? Will he dip his hands in on his own and put them in his mouth? Hold a spoon and attempt it?

Hello. Thanks for the reply. No he wouldn’t. He would just look at his hands and acknowledge it’s on them but have no interest in licking them. He holds a spoon fine and examines it, but again has no interest in putting it in his mouth.

Does he put toys in his mouth? You know...his rattle/bear/bricks?

Sorry I thought I had mentioned that but must have forgotten. He doesn’t put any toys to his mouth. But I know he can put things in his mouth as he sucks his thumb.

I've just had a quick Google and it seems to be quite a common problem...quite a lot of people posting "My baby doesn't put anything in his mouth"

If there are no other concerns I'd wait it out for a month or two and then there would be no harm asking your GP about it.

Mine was similar- only thing he would eat was baby crisps? Have you tried that. He’s 15 months now and only after the last few days has he put a whole meal in his mouth by himself. Was slow to feed himself milk too- did this at 14 months! Grin
