Weaning and vomiting

Wondered if anyone had a similar experience and could advise!
DS2 is 6.5 months. Started weaning him a few weeks ago and its going pretty well - he is definitely swallowing bits as evidenced by nappies (DS1 didn't seem to swallow anything for a while) and will try everything and has had a range of food including veg, fruit, bread, fish, cheese, yoghurt, porridge, eggs etc. We have had a couple of projectile vomiting incidents when he has solid finger food too close to a milk feed, shoves it a bit far back, and gags. Waiting an hour after milk seems to largely solve this.
A couple of weeks ago he caught a bug with high temp, vomited 6 or so times over a couple of days, very irritable for a few days. Got over the bug within a few days and went back to his usual happy self. Then last week he vomited 3 times one day, wasn't sure if overfeeding as had 2 BFs and some yoghurt and fruit puree within a couple of hours but then did it twice later that day. Yesterday he vomited in the car after working himself up crying (not a car fan Hmm) and then again at night. No temp, no other signs of illness, quite happy. Could this be to do with weaning or an after effect of the bug? Should I hold back on solids (he's still v keen)? Was thinking of keeping a food diary to see if its a particular food but we didn't have any reaction to anything before he had the bug. He does have mild eczema, however has only ever had 2 flare ups and both have coincided with illness (nurse at GP surgery said this is common) and it started pre weaning. I am BFing and he's never had any formula. Any clues?!

Should also add for further disclosure I'm pretty sure he's teething and dribbling lots, and nappies are normal (which is making me think its not an intolerance?!). His sleep is not great but we never really recovered from the 4 month regression. Since weaning he does seem to have wind at night sometimes like when he was small.

Is he having dairy products? A tummy bug often makes little ones temporarily intolerant to dairy products.

I'd cut out dairy for a few days and walk back the weaning too just until he settles again. But I wouldn't be worried.

Thanks Dragon, yes he is and I can dial back to 2 meals with no dairy, sounds like a plan. Avocado on toast for lunch it is!

Yes it might be an idea to focus on the BRAT foods (banana, rice, apple, toast) which are good after a bug. But if no temp and no dehydration and baby otherwise seems fine, my guess would be the dairy. A stomach bug can (apparently) damage the villi in the intestine that absorb nutrients, which can create a temporary dairy intolerance, so it's generally best to avoid dairy for a bit after a bug. Breast milk, as always, is perfect Grin

Thanks. No worries about dehydration or temp. As always having plenty of breastmilk Smile

Hmm taking dairy out has not worked, he had another 48 hour gap then vomited twice, interestingly both times when he'd rooted for extra milk feeds. So seems to be related to being overfull. Have had a few incidents of vomiting in the past after growth spurts when he's seemingly increased my milk supply and not quite been able to cope with it yet. I got a bit upset yesterday (he vomited whilst we were out and I'm suffering from anxiety) but DH pointed out he is healthy and happy so am trying not to worry. I tend to be a bit panicky about this sort of thing which always ends up resolving itself given time. Ironic I'm panicking about it when my oldest had reflux for 8 or 9 months and was always puking Confused

Have you cut dairy out of your diet? It passes through breast milk so can cause him issues if he’s intolerant to it at the moment.

It usually takes about 2 weeks to see an improvement, so don’t give up just yet!

No I haven't, but not sure if it is that or not and don't want to cut it out if it isn't...would be a big effort I think. He's never had issues before with dairy (I drink plenty of milk, eat cheese and yoghurt etc) so am hoping that it will just resolve itself.

The thing is, if he’s got lactose intolerance cause by a stomach bug he’s not going to get better if he’s still ingesting dairy through bm. I would try it for a few days at least to see if it helps.
