High calorie, low allergenic food for 8 month old

Hi, this is my first time on this board.

I saw a GP today about my 8 month old DS who is small, and not developing as I think he should, and the GP thinks maybe he has some sort of food intolerance.

I am after some ideas on foods that are high in calories, and low allergenic.

Thx,

is he drinking plenty of milk? or do you think he may have a milk intolerance?

no advice on food intolerance but the gps advice doesnt sound very thorough!

buttery mashed potato was always a good one here, but not suer whether you want to avoid dairy?

cakes! apple crumble and custard! sheperds pie?

dd3 loved pasta with tuna and tomato - lots of olive oil

Avocado has the highest calorie content after breastmilk of any food.

You can also try adding cream to potatos, cream custards etc.

But why isn't your GP referring him for allergy testing?

Thx, this was a private GP, who suggested if we sort out his nutrition then maybe everything will come together. He was actually very thorough, but recommended that I go back to my "normal" GP and get a referral to a ped at my local hospital who can coordinate all his needs.

Thx for the recipe ideas, I'll look into them!

avocado is good
bananas
fruit generally
meat and chicken? mine were all having them at this age.
just generally the less processed the better i think. make the stuff yourself from scracth

dd had a bit of lactose intolerance so we had to drastically reduce her milk intake, btu this wasnt till she was much older.

also, how small? some babies are just on the smaller side

mm22bys · 12/07/2007 17:28

2% small! That's his length too though, so at least he is in proportion.

He is bottle-fed and I thought today about changing the formula he's on but I don't know what to.

Thx for your suggestions, I did buy avocado and bananas today so I'll mush them up (DS1 loved them so hopefully DS2 will as well)

mm22bys - you can get additives to increase the calorie content of his formual. We used calogen and maxijul. Calogen is a liquid Maxijul is a powder that you can add to other food. Or you can get fortified formula. They have to be prescribed though so you need to get that referral.

2nd centile? dd3 was on this

she was developing normally though

just weeny

Are there other problems mm22bys. Perhaps he's just a little 'un.

mm22bys · 13/07/2007 09:30

He's been investigated for other problems since March but so far nothing definite. GP just thought everything might come together if nutrition is improved.

If he was just "little" I wouldn't be concerned, but it's all the other issues that are more worrying.

He's going to be seeing his normal GP in a week or so. I could have had him seen by another GP earlier but so far no-one has really taken our concerns seriously (everyone's just told us to "wait and see") and I hope that as he was the first GP to raise concerns he will take us seriously....

BTW, I gave him banana and avocado last night and he LOVED it...

I have a similar ds and also add avocado oil to his veg after cooking to increase the calories.
