Lumps?

Ds (6.5 months old) is taking some finger foods and some purees and mashed foods, but he seems to swallow everything whole without attempting to chew it - is this ok or should I be pureeing everything? Just a bit concerned that he will struggle to digest things in big lumps or even choke.

do you know what to do if he ever does choke, sweetjane? it's always worth investigating if you're a parent, i think.
but in answer to your OP, so long as he seems fine and happy it's safe to presume he's fine and happy. dd used to swallow the most enormous lumps of soft fruit and veg, it used to amaze me.

He's learning how to eat and will get better at chewing or knowing what he can manage.

We had some rather alarming gagging incidents with large chunks of pear and apple but it didn't seem to bother ds in the least and now he manages the same stuff no bother only a few weeks later. Gagging is not the same as choking but it can still be pretty nerveracking for you!

My daughter used to shove whole strawberries in her mouth and then try to add another - cheeks bulging, drooling, but still smiling. As long as your baby is managing to swallow, let him get on with it. He will soon learn to bite.
