Baby porridge

What are people’s thoughts on using it?

I’ve been weaning my twins for a few weeks now under the advice of their consultant. They are seven months actual but just shy of six months corrected.

They were doing OK with a meal around 4pm. They’ve been getting sweet potato, carrot, parsnip etc purées. I’ve tried them with some finger food but they aren’t keen just yet.

I’m struggling with breakfast and a few of my mum friends have suggested baby porridge as they aren’t really eating what I’ve been giving them so far and it’s such a waste of food! Is it OK to give or is it just an empty nutrition free food like baby rice?

They can have normal porridge or ready brek or weetabix at that age

I used regular porridge oats and just blitz them in the food processor to make them
Into sawdust pretty much ,

My baby loves it and still does !

I used ready brek (then asda own brand ready oats). It's fortified with a couple of vitamins I think. No sugar or salt added. I mixed it with milk and a bit of fruit puree.

I used to buy a box of baby banana porridge and mix with a box of Ready Brek!

Couldn't (and still can't) get my toddler to eat baby porridge made according to the packet. Tried various flavours, brands, mixing with water or milk. We did eventually get her to eat readybrek mixed with fruit flavour yogurt. Mostly just give her a Cheerios and a banana now.

Just use readybrek for reasons pp has said. It's fortified, it's ground up and so much cheaper than baby porridge. You can mix in fruit purees.

Before anyone suggests otherwise it doesn't have any added salt or sugar

The baby porridge I bought has sugar in the ingredients list. Wish I'd read that before purchase. It's now in the bin and I just use regular porridge oats ground in food processor. Baby porridge is waste of money in my view. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Just usual normal unsweetened porridge or weetabix. Perfect for babies new to eating! And toddlers and adults :)

Thanks everyone. Looks like I’m going to be stocking up on porridge oats and ready brek tomorrow😊
