Constipation

DD is one and I have swapped her to cows milk ever since she has been so constipated I'm sure it's the milk.

Has anyone experienced this? Can I change her to soy milk instead of cows milk? Or do I persist? Docs given me stool softener

She was up all night last night screaming in pain

Thank you!

Yes, there is a strong link between cow’s milk and chronic constipation in children. Soy milk in moderation (1 to 2 cups a day) is a usually good alternative and is suitable for children aged 12months +. However approx 40% of people who are intolerant to cow’s milk are also intolerant to soy milk. It’s worth a try though
Make sure your her diet contains other calcium-rich (or calcium-fortified) foods because soy milk isn’t enough on its own. Also, because soy milk is made from plants, it doesn't have any vitamin B12 which is found only in animal foods (including cow's milk), so you’ll need to make sure she’s eating enough meat and/or eggs.
If you choose to use almond milk, get the unsweetened versions fortified with calcium and Vitamin D and make sure your her diet contains other sources of healthy fats as nut milks are very low fat.

Thank you for that that's really helpful! Can I not just cut her cows milk right down and increase things such as yoghurt cheese etc see if that makes a difference?

I'm trying to cut back her cows milk as she has around 20oz a day as sometimes she's waking in the night for a milk still! It's so hard to know what's right the doctors given me stool softener to try for now x

Yes you can cut out cows milk and just give her more cheese, yogurt etc..but I just thought you might need a milk alternative for cereal, porridge etc...
