We can see this thread is very old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for suggestions, we’ve recently refreshed our best weaning books page with plenty of great options tried and tested by Mumsnet parents. We hope you find it useful.

Anything by Annabel Karmel is really good.

moondog · 05/07/2007 22:31

No it's not.

lol naughty moondog.

google or search on here for baby led weaning (blw) for an alternative.

What's so funny?

I liked Rose Elliot's "Mother, Baby & Toddler" book (veggie) but probably because it contained my sort of cooking anyway.

Ah Fossil, you have inadvertently stumbled on one of the ancient mumsnet dichotomies:

There's breast v bottle, wohm v sahm, cloth v disposable... and purees v blw. Tis all in jest I'm sure

"My Child Won't Eat!: How to prevent and solve the problem" by Carlos Gonzales. Bit of a crap title but excellent book about the ideas behind weaning, solids & babies appetites. Well worth the read.

Poor old Annabel Karmel. She's not so bad - I am blwing and have used some of her finger food ideas.

'Optimum Nutrition for Babies and Toddlers' - some lovely recipes in there, though I will admit to substituting some of the ubiquitous wholemeal stuff for white even though that is apparently Very Bad.

Aitch's blog is excellent too - www.babyledweaning.com

I know all the stuff about 'just give them whatever you're having minus the salt', but sad as I am I quite like making stuff specially too.

Sorry, my recommendation was more in terms of meals to provide later. For the initial stages of weaning, do look into the baby-led approach as well as whatever the hv throws at you. I regret starting weaning at 16 weeks and if doing it again, would wait until 26 weeks. Enjoy it.
