Hey Everyone, apologies in advance for the long post!
I just wondered if anyone has any advice on weaning my 16 month old from breastfeeding?
I went to a couple of breastfeeding clinics for advice but didn’t find them very useful.
We have made lots of progress but just need to drop the final bedtime feed which I think is going to be the big challenge.
All online / breastfeeding clinic advice is not to use a bottle as apparently bottles should be phased out after 1 year anyway.
Is this one of those baby things where all the “official” advice is ignored by everyone?
Having always refused a bottle, he recently did take one from his Dad when I was not able to be at home for his bedtime.
If he was is comforted by having a bottle during this transition, should I just be happy about it and go that route?
(I leave a 360 cup of water in his cot overnight so he does drink from that.)
I would love to hear of other people’s experiences and what worked for them. X

Personally I'd leave it until after the 18 months growth spurt. Breastfeeding will probably make the sleep regression easier.

Have a Google of Sarah Ockwell Smith's gentle night weaning or Dr Jay Gordon's nightweaning advice.

Other than that, no ideas as haven't weaned myself.

The advice about phasing out bottles is based on the fact that giving older babies/toddlers bottles all day long is associated with various problems and The Powers That Be try to keep advice as simple and straightforward as possible. But 1 bottle a day is really not a problem if you want to do it. Will your toddler accept it as a comfort thing though? My experience is that babies who did not grow up with bottles are unlikely to see them as a substitute for the breast.

Whatever you decide to do, you will need to hold firm as there probably will be a LOT of screaming involved!
