DD refuses spoon but BLW approach is causing tummy upset

I'd be so grateful for any advice or words of encouragement.

DD is about to hit the 8 month mark and I feel like we've only just scratched the surface despite weaning for two months.

Weight is good but I worry she's not getting enough iron, other vitamins etc. One thing tells me bf is enough nutritionally until 1 but then elsewhere it says they need more by even 8 months and should be on three meals a day 😩

She refuses the spoon now because she's hated everything I put on it. Doesn't even give it a chance anymore. So I tried BLW approach and this was way more successful but her digestion just can't take it. So much pain. Is this normal?

So dispirited right now 😞

Hey, my LO is nearly 14 months and we still have our ups and downs with food. So much can affect it at this age- colds, teething, bugs. I’m breastfeeding which has been great when he’s been grotty for whatever reason and off solids as he always continues bf. We’re doing blw. My approach is to continue presenting him with a variety of foods and be relaxed about what/if he chooses to eat. So long as they’re fit, healthy and developing I don’t see the problem with the approach.
Are you sure the tummy upset was related to food?

Neither of my two ate much until they were well over a year old. I did BLW and it went fine (tried the odd puree, but they weren't fussed, whereas with BLW they at least ate something), but there was no way they were anything like 3 meals a day.

As long as they're gaining a decent amount of weight, they'll be ok. You can give vitamin drops if you're worried about what they're getting.

If BLW is causing tummy upsets, though, you might want to talk to your health visitor or GP to see whether there are any allergies or anything going on.
