We are weaning my 6 month old, most things he has a spoon or 2 (then I give him spoon to hold with food on and some ends up in his mouth), apart from shreddies (square ones) these he can have 10 spoons of. Any ideas what is shreddie like or what to try next.

Parsnip was ok, and sweet potato, broccoli and cauli go on the floor, pear was a no, banana we are working on, not keen on baby porridge. Seemed to like a bit of a wrap.

Bought carrot and avocado to try next then I'm out of ideas.

Shreddies are quite a sweet thing to be weaning a baby on. They contain refined sugar.

Advice is to wean on savoury stuff first as otherwise they're likely to always favour sweet things.

Maybe try veg as finger food. DD liked butternut squash and courgette.

It sounds like he has quite a sweet tooth as he likes sweeter veg so you could try sweetcorn and butternut squash too.
If he like the wrap, try pitta bread and pasta shapes
Cooked beans and chickpeas are also suitable from 6 months.
Shredded wheat bitesize are brilliant for under 1's as there is no added anything, it's just wholewheat. Usually own brand is better than Nestle. The raisin type is just wholewheat and raisin so you can vary the taste a bit more. Weetabix is also sugar free and virtually salt free. Tesco value cornflakes seem to have the lowest sugar out of the flaked cereal varieties.
Flakey white fish is good too.

Weetabix isn't sugar free but does have a lower amount than other cereals. Porridge and ready brek are sugar and salt free. You can add fruit puree to vary flavours

Haha, yes it will be the sweet flavour he likes! 7.5mo DD has a real sweet tooth too, much to my increasing chagrin! Things that she likes which your son may like too:

  • Baby porridge - DD has a Cow and Gate one which has natural apple & pear flavourings. She has also tried the Hipp Organic creamed porridge, which she hated, but she liked it if I mixed in some fruit puree.
  • Fruit purees
  • Purees that are mixed fruits & vegetables together
  • Fruit-flavoured yoghurts
  • Tomato soup
  • Baked beans (mushed)

She will eat basically anything as finger food though, although I say 'eat' loosely as her actual intake is usually still close to zero, she hasn't got the hang of eating proper solids yet. She also likes the 'dissolvable' type baby snacks so like Organix carrot sticks and banana puffs, and the Kiddylicious blueberry wafers etc, and Asda blueberry-flavoured baby rice cakes.

Normal porridge made with just milk, or you could try porridge fingers - my DD loves those. Agree mini shreddies are good.
Toasted brown bread. They say with veg you might need to try it 10-15 times before they decide they like it!

Cereal is my favourite too Grin

You just have to keep trying. And then be prepared for them to suddenly stop liking the thing that they loved yesterday.
