What does your 10 month old eat? Does this sound ok?

She's a bottle refuser and I work full time so she only has breast milk at night and when she wakes up.

Breakfast (8.30) bowl of baby porridge or slice of toast with peanut butter

Lunch (12.30) puréed chicken casserole or puréed pasta in tomatoe and veg sauce.

2 of these- Pitta bread with humous, broccoli, sweet corn fritters, banana or raspberries as snacks

Dinner (5.30) - sweetcorn as finger food, puréed spaghetti bolognase or beef stew. Maybe puréed fruit

Does this seem ok? Any suggestions for other meals? All meals made with lots of veg and low salt.

Sounds absolutely fine. Only thing I would suggest is maybe stopping the pureeing? Making to save yourself time!

At 10 months she could probably handle some lumps. My 11 month old just has whatever we have chopped very small. I appreciate some babies won’t eat this, but might be worth trying, just to save yourself the bother!

The only other thing is perhaps some more dairy, as she isn’t having much milk during the day. Some cheese or yoghurt perhaps?

That sounds fabulous, great job! Eggs are another good one- I’d do just yolks at this age. Soups are good too-proper thick hearty ones! Cherry tomatoes another good snack (cut up obvs!) Sweet potato mash. Bit of cheese?

MrsL2016 · 14/01/2019 20:28

That seems okay to me. I have a nearly 10 month old and he has 3 bottles (morning afternoon and bedtime) and 3 meals a day. If you are worried about the amount of milk your DD is getting then try and work dairy into the food with some yogurt and cheese. Also I don't puree anything anymore. I pureed veg for the first month or two of weaning but now don't bother.

IceBearRocks · 14/01/2019 20:40

Much more dairy in her diet and more mouthing foods! Stop the puree!

Jamhandprints · 14/01/2019 20:48

Sounds great.
Does she have any other drinks during the day? Maybe theres a cup she'll take? My son refused all cups except the Ikea "puppy cup".
My 7 month old is not happy about weaning. The only things she'll try are dry rice crispies off her tray, and milk soaked cheerios. These could be other breakfast options for your baby. Dry or with milk.

Hi OP

I have 10 mos and am starting to mash with fork or potato masher rather than pureeing. If you want other recipe ideas this is what mine have had recently

Lamb and apricot stew (also had carrot, sweet pot, I think some other veg)

Chowder - I adapt Jamie Oliver's recipe and make either sweetcorn or salmon chowder

Fish pie topped with mash

Pork and apple stew (also had cabbage and swede and maybe leeks?)

Sausage casserole with tinned toms, beans, apple, some other veg

A huge huge favourite is "orange soup" which a mum friend of mine invented - butternut squash , carrot, sweet potato, red lentil, sweetcorn and you can also put in any other random veg if the flavours combine okay - it's packed with veggies and they really go for it

In terms of moving away from purees, I started by giving them finger food after every meal and as they became more confident, made lumpier dishes and/or sometimes mashed what we were having.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 14/01/2019 20:59

Also mine have porridge or scrambled egg for breakfast and when it's porridge, I've started adding bits of dried fruit as great for fibre, iron etc, so bits of apricot, prune, fig and so on.

Firstty · 14/01/2019 21:03

Thanks for the reassurance and the suggestions everyone!

I have been trying to move away from purees - I made her a casserole with everything chopped up really small but she really didn't like that texture. She will eat the finger foods I give her ok though as long as they are easy enough to mush in her mouth.

No need to purée. Give her it cut up into little pieces but yes, you're doing fine x

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/01/2019 21:54

I think she will get used to the textures if you persist gently. With mine, Dt2 is totally ready for more "advanced" food but DT1 was not. They were prem and for ages he would sort of suck food as though it were a nipple or teat and push a lot back out. He just spat out lumps. Now he is getting better and eats small pieces grumpily. He likes his food so I am using his greed against him as I figure he'd rather eat lumps than nothing!! And he does eat..... grudgingly 😂

rubyroot · 16/01/2019 21:52

Hi I understand where you are coming from the purees. We went for a gradual approach and mashed it up a lot with a fork and then increased the lumps. Mine was limp adverse but definitely doing sooner than later. Try dippy egg and soldiers as very good for them. Also grated cheese and yoghurt mixed with fruit- can whizz that up in food processor. Try stew as nice and soft veggies.
