Breakfast cereals other than weetabix?

Anyone got any suggestions for cereal ideas I can give my 6 month old that isn't weetabix...I cannot handle the clean up job afterwards on a regular basis! It dries like cement!

I know they're meant to have what I'm having but I tend to have porridge or muesli which I think will be a bit tricky for him at this age and just as messy.

Came on to suggest porridge or museliGrin
How about scrambled eggs, toast, strips of omelette, pancakes (I make them without sugar), you can make porridge strips (weird blw recipe that my daughter hated, but others seem to like)

Queenfreak · 13/01/2019 08:43

're cleaning up I used to bathe my daughter after breakfast instead of at night. Her clothes had a swish in the bath too after she'd finished.

I would've said ready brek its smoother than porridge but hell just as messy and dries like cement too. But it does go down well!

mamaduckbone · 13/01/2019 08:45

Ready brek - it’s just more finely ground porridge oats. It is even more cement-like than Weetabix to clean up though...you could wallpaper your house with it Grin

X post!

You can bake porridge into fingers in the microwave which makes them much easier for tiny ones to eat. I no longer have my blw cookbook but the recipe was in there

Porridge is messy too, but it's a very good first self-feeding food as it sticks to the spoon well.

tryinganewname · 13/01/2019 08:51

DD has been having Readybrek made with her formula but we didn't have any in at the caravan this weekend so had regular porridge and she was absolutely fine with it - she's 6 months this week, just cook it really well and make it as loose as possible. Going to mix some apples and pear purées or banana through this week too.

I wouldn't say you have many other choices at this age for cereals.

drspouse · 13/01/2019 08:52

Oh and we got a "first muesli" that's a bit finer.

Babbaganoush · 13/01/2019 09:00

Thanks everyone. So the general consensus is 'suck it up and embrace the mess' Grin

If you live near an Aldi, their version of weetabix - wheat bisks - are great and doesn't set like cement like weetabix! So much easier to clean up, made a huge difference!

Porridge fingers are great too, or maybe bitesize shredded wheat?

CoffeeAndCakeEssentials · 13/01/2019 11:07

Porridge fingers
Homemade Scotch pancakes
Shreddies can be picked up by little fingers
Toast fingers
Scrambled or dippy egg

These were always favourites in our house. Good luck and embrace the mess Grin

I used to leave crushed cornflakes to soak in a little bit hot milk for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. It turns out like porridge but is a lot easier to wash up! Same for shredded wheat.

DS2 (8m) loves a few Cheerios in a bowl, dry. He spends ages playing, picking them up, and eating them. I then spoon feed him some porridge once I’ve got coffee!

Mossyhill · 14/01/2019 08:10

I’m sure you are but be careful of the salt content in some of the adult cereals. Some deemed safe for babies are really high in salt.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/01/2019 18:09

Try her with a cinnamon bagel spread with butter too or a banana. The banana would still be messy though...Smile

Blueberry pancakes have always been a big hit with our DD Smile
