Hi my baby is just 6 months, she started grabbing for food at 5 months so we added porridge in morning and puréed veg at evening meal but now shes 6 months we really want to try baby led weaning, but not really sure where to start.
DD is a great sleeper so doesn’t wake till 8am then we have breakfast porridge and 4oz milk, then between 12-1 she was having bottle (which has been projectile vomited back at me numourous times so now I’ve added more purées veg at lunch instead) dinner 4.30/5 and bedtime bottle about 5oz at 7.30/8. My problem is I see all these routines where babys supposed to have 4/5 bottles a day as well as 3 meals but my DD just doesn’t want it, And she just doesn’t enjoy milk at all anymore since introducing food! She’s a good weight and an extremely happy baby so she’s not causing me any concern really in just worried what the health visitor will say when I see her next

3 meals is awful to at 6 months OP. The NHS don’t recommend moving to 3 meals until baby is at least 8 months Smile

Just add in finger foods alongside puree - it's called traditional weaning that way. BLW is doing all finger foods frim the start with no puree

How much milk is she taking. Ideally from 6 months a minimum of 20oz is recommended alongside meals

I was asking for advice not judgement! 👋🏼

Thankyou demented pixie, she’s drinking about 10oz I’ve been to see heath visitor since posting this she doesn’t seem too concerned she says it’s totally normal after starting food to go off milk, so my minds been out at rest now thanks for your help though xx

I wouldn't be happy with a 6 month old only taking 10oz a day. Could you give smaller amounts in between food rather than milk at the same time as food

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/01/2019 20:04

No judgement here, I’m sorry if it came across that way. I was just mentioning the NHS Guidelines as so few MNers seem aware of them. Lots of HVs don’t seem to be aware of them either in my experience Smile

I replaced one meal at a time starting with dinner. So she still had 3/4 bottles and a meal at dinner time and replaced breakfast after a few month and so on.
I never gave her a meal and a bottle. Also gave her snacks between bottles too like baby biscuits/crackers etc.

Jj2288 · 06/01/2019 20:36

I’ve tried bottles in between but she’s just not hungry and pushes them away or projectile vomits the whole thing back up, she just doesn’t want it, after seeing the health visor she said the 10oz is ok, and make any food (porridge, mash Ect) up with milk too which I was doing and I’ve been completely re assured as my daughter is thriving and very forward so my mind is now at rest. Yes winter wife that’s what I did replace one meal at a time, and she absolutely loves her food, not so bothered with snacks at the minute though just loves veg! Hopefully it stays that way! Haha Thanks for all your advice though 👍 xx

It was about that age when my son dropped a lot of milk but within about a month it increased a lot , it still fluctuates now at 10 months old , sometimes he will have 15oz sometimes 35 oz 😊

Baby led weaning is great! So easy. Just give the baby whatever you're eating. Seriously! Just mind the sugar and salt. Offering food X3 a day is fine, babe probably won't take much in at this age anyway, it's more about getting used to flavours and textures from the get-go. If you want to read up then get Gill Rapley's book.
