What foods can I introduce my 8 and a half month old to he is still very prone to gagging with baby foods of the appropriate age so nothing too hard or lumpy Smile

Anything except whole nuts and honey and nothing highly salted or sugary

dementedpixie · 01/01/2019 18:55

Pasta, meat, cheese, yoghurt, fruits, veg, rice, potato, whatever you have really

ShaniceDanielle · 01/01/2019 18:57

I'm really panicky when I give him anything I think the fear is more on my behalf when offering him food x

Learn the difference between choking and gagging, that made me worry less.

Maybe a baby first aid course?

NannyR · 01/01/2019 19:01

Have you done a children's first aid course? Knowing exactly what to do if choking occurs can make you more confident with introducing new foods. St John's ambulance and red cross have some good videos showing you what to do.
Also, gagging is not the same as choking, although it looks scary, it's a normal part of learning to eat and swallow.

What happens when he gags Shanice?

ImAChaiseLongueGetMeOutOfHere · 01/01/2019 19:33

Mine is similar but had success with Ella melt sticks, hummus, broccoli florets to the hold, creamed mash potato

ShaniceDanielle · 01/01/2019 19:50

Nothing really happens it's just the gagging sounds or coughing I gave some melts sticks in the cupboard I'll give them ago tomorrow xx

Sticks of toast or crusts from bread or breadsticks are good for the baby to hold and chew on.

Although from 6 months they can have anything except honey and whole nuts.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/01/2019 21:01

Gagging is absolutely fine. It’s a normal part of them learning to eat Smile

Like others have said, if you’re really worried you need to do a First Aid Course as babies can choke on purees as well as finger foods.

If you want some ideas of what to try, have a read of this guide from the Caroline Walker Trust. Smile
