Hey all :-) my son is 15 weeks old this week and he is having 7oz of mamia milk every 2-3 hours he wont really go any longer and he always drains the bottle. Just recently his bed time bottle well he is having 2!! He isnt drinking all of the second but is draining the 7oz of bottle one and taking 2-4oz out of the second. Me and his dad were going to start him on baby porridge in the mornings to see of that made a difference but a midwife friend told us his body isnt ready for it yet!! (She was pretty horrified we were considering it) then said we are his parents and if we feel that its best then we should do it. My son usually only wakes once in the night for a milk top up usually any time between 2-4 o'clock. So i cant complain to much just dont know what to do for the best. Any advice welcomed. TIA x

If he wants more milk just give him more... the advice is to feed on demand even for formula.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 03/12/2018 09:14

Far too young! If he is hungry just give more milk
Officially it’s meant to be 6 months but my HV said that 4-6 months was ok but baby needs to showing readiness for food which is not draining bottles

Youmadorwhat · 03/12/2018 09:15

No no no!! 6months!

harper30 · 03/12/2018 09:24

Nooooooooooo. I'm sure that even if you want to do early weaning it should never be before 17 weeks, their bodies are just not geared up for food. And why would anyone go for food when you can just give more milk it's so much easier? Please don't 🙏🏼
My DP was a huge baby born in the 80's and as a result his mum fed him baby rice and porridge from 10 weeks and he has horrendous IBS now. I can't prove the link but I'm sure solids so early had a negative impact

WeSaluteYou · 03/12/2018 09:38

There are more calories in milk than solids so milk will succeed in filling himup more if he’s hungry. Just give more milk. Needing more milk isn’t a sign of readiness for weaning

Thank you all so much!

No. No. He's too young. You need to look up advice on this sort of thing before just deciding to do it 'because you're his parents'. Babies drink milk. Wait until he's six months for solids.

17 weeks is the absolute minimum, you increase his risk of infections and long term gut/digestive problems by starting before then.

Mumshappy · 03/12/2018 09:43

Sorry i dont agree with six months. The new reports are a confirming that from 17 weeks is better due to allergies. A lot of people wean at 17 weeks. My hv did. Do what you think is right for your baby not what you feel pressured into doing.
