With Ds I just did spoon feeding, with DD1 did a mix of both but DD2 decided yesterday she wanted to eat and was going to get it herself so had a good suck on most of salad on my plate and fruit etc.
So I need a run down of quick lunch and breakfast foods for her and any no nos!

quick bf food is porridge (done in a pancake style if you want, recipe on blog, or self-fed if managing a spoon), mini shreddies (or m&s non-nestle equiv), fruit or in our case very often leftovers from the night before. and toast, obv.

lunch.
dd often has sandwich and cucumber or carrot sticks, fruit etc. or chickpea burgers or fishcakes or, ahem, leftovers...

Nemo2007 · 21/06/2007 16:18

all manner of fruit, bagel, toast yoghurt etc.....lunch, all manner of veg really - brocolli, sweetcorn, sweet pots, carrots, chicken breast, mince, pasta - BIG hit.. ....BLW is fab...

Aitch · 21/06/2007 21:55

cori, would you go to the blog and look at the most recent post and contribute if you feel you want to? cheers. h x
and nemo, it's all fine from 6 months. i didn't giev strawbs, kiwi, eggs and nuts til later but i was probably being cautious in that.

Habbibu · 22/06/2007 08:02

Would be cautious with raw apple and nuts, simply because they do pose choking hazards - I know this is probably stating the obvious, but hope you don't mind...

bizziebee · 22/06/2007 13:30

Sorry to hi-jack this thread. Quick question. My dd also nearly six months. is it okay to make porridge / shreddies with cows milk?

Coriander73 · 22/06/2007 21:31

Aitch, I've just created an account so will aim to get some comments on & some fab photos asap.....infact let me see if I can put a photo on here...

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 22/06/2007 21:35

Toast with anything. In fact anything chip shaped - veg, fruit etc. Pasta twirls with sauces. Look at babyledweaning.com they havel loads of tips.

Aitch · 22/06/2007 23:56

I'm a 'they'!!

colditz · 22/06/2007 23:58

Aitch

where is your blog?

Aitch · 23/06/2007 00:00

Coriander73 · 24/06/2007 13:32

I can't remember how to add a photo......please help!

Aitch · 24/06/2007 14:35

oh you just have to send it to me at aitch at babyledweaning dot com... it's not a proper website, really, just a blog.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/06/2007 10:09

It's a fab blog. It really helped me when I decided to BLW DS.

Aitch · 25/06/2007 11:53

aw, thanks, i really appreciate that. now we've got lots of newbies on at the moment so i'm sure you'll be back to pass on your wisdom...

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/06/2007 13:22

I was more of a lurker than a poster, and I can't get into it at work, but will try and come back some evenings if you like. DS is a fab eater (nursery comment on it every day) and I think that is down to BLW, which I pretty much learnt totally from your blog. I'm normally Sunshinemummy btw.

Aitch · 25/06/2007 14:43

i'd love that, tbh, thanks. i just don't have the breadth of experience to answer everyone's questions, particularly wrt bfing etc.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/06/2007 15:40

I didn't breast feed at all as couldn't get DS to suck (he'd latch on and then sit there like a limpet) and then I was ill but I'll certainly try and help where I can.

Aitch · 25/06/2007 16:06

lol, dd used to pretend to suck... fooled all but the most qualified bfing counsellors.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/06/2007 16:54

Yes I had similar. The midwife would tell me how he was latched on perfectly, but I knew he wasn't doing anything while he was on there.

MrsCarrot · 25/06/2007 16:57

Lo just grabbed and chewed off my watermelon before I could get it back from his jaws.

He was only five months on the 21st and I want to wait but I guess you could say that was baby led.

Aitch · 25/06/2007 17:01

i think that's totally babl-led, mrsc!

MrsCarrot · 25/06/2007 17:05

yes, he looked ecstatic about it, and he's VERY interested in my food. I think I should wait if he is showing signs of allergy though shouldn't I? Might come on that blog.

Aitch · 25/06/2007 20:10

well the thinking is that if they can eat, they can eat, iykwim? personally i'd wait a little longer if you can manage but for me... if the baby was really keen and able at 5 months-ish i'd let them go for it.
bearing in mind it's just fun and there's no rush, of course. but no gluten and double check veggies and fruit for allergy things on the weaning schedules, just so you avoid anything potentially allergenic. however that's just my opinion, plenty of people would disagree.
