Hello all!
I posted the other day regarding my son dropping his afternoon bottle. He’s 9.5 months old, has CMPA and a healthy appetite when it comes to food! Formula wise he is having around 15 ounces daily, spoken to his dietician and specialist and they are both happy he doesn’t need a multi vitamin as he’s eating a mix of cereal fruit veg meats fish and pulses.
I am wanting to know some good sources of calcium please as I’m keen to increase the amount he has.
Thank you all!

My boys are both dairy & soya intolerant I use plant milks that are fortified in calcium in cooking as much as possible. Also give them smoothies/milkshakes with added calcium.

Eldest has calcium supplement off the dietician.

Spring greens are full of calcium too.

I’ve been using his milk when I cook with it so that he’s getting more of his formula.
Oooo calcium supplements haven’t been mentioned, we aren’t due back for another 2 months though and they are a pain to get hold of!

Calcium can actually inhibit iron absorption and iron is essential for infant cognitive development. I personally would avoid calcium supplements:

15oz of formula should generally take care of calcium needs. Unless there are specific circumstances that require elevated calcium intake, I would just try to offer a normal balanced diet.

Thank you! To be honest he is having a good mix of everything, I’m panicking because he’s dropped his afternoon bottle but I’ve noticed he’s now drinking more milk at bedtime. I’ll introduce more dairy free alternatives over the next couple of weeks (have to try each new food for 4 days), cheese, custard, thinking of making porridge fingers and milk jelly too.

It's advised to supplement all babies between 6 months and 5 years with Vitamins A,C and D except when they are taking over 500/600 600mls of formula as it is fortified already.

When you see the dietician mention it to them & they’ll be able to see if he’s getting enough calcium.

My eldest went through a massive fussy period so that’s why he was put on supplements to make sure he was getting enough.

It sounds like your son is doing well, Oatly does quite a few dairy free products that are in Tesco’s which are handy.

I told the dietician how much he’s drinking daily and she said it’s fine because of his diet (I had to go through what he eats each day). He’s had multivitamins but has an allergic reaction to them. She did reassure me that he’s ok though without them, even though he is taking a little less formula than recommended.
For my own peace of mind I’m trying to get him to take more calcium rich foods.
He really likes the violife (?) soft cheese, I’m going to try the block cheese and see if he likes that. I’ve bought some oatly which I’m going to make the porridge fingers with.
