7mo BLW constipated

My 7mo has been weaning for just over a month now and has always had a big messy poo every day (breastfed). He went 2.5 days without pooping, then on Saturday was upset doing a big gluey type poo, and hasn’t gone since. How farts are horrible so I know he’s constipated. I’ve jear good things about Ella’s kitchen prune/pear pouches and asked OH to pick some up but is there anything else? He’s had weetabix, plenty of breastfeeds, sipped water from his beaker (no more than half an oz if that, just getting used to the cups), warm showers with me and baby massage as well as bicycle legs.

My traditionally weaned eldest suffered horrbly with painful constipation if he had too many cows milk products in a day. OH wants to cut out wheat, oats and dairy products and basically just have fruit and veg for a week, but this seems excessive?

He’s also just cut 2 teeth and suffering with it

How often are you offering solids? If it’s more than once or twice a day, it might be an idea to cut back for a few days as his digestive system might not be mature enough to cope.

I’d give the weetabix a miss for a few days along with potato, sweet potato (yam) and banana. Try some high water foods like brocolli, cauliflower, jelly, melon and soup Smile

@jiltedjohnsjulie thank you or the suggestions! He actually had another gluey poo (upset whilst straining while I bicycled his legs) and then a few minutes later filled his nappy with no crying so I think it’s now “unplugged” and whatever caused it is out of his system. He had about 2tsp of prune purée to help anything else along. He usually has 2 meals and snacks, depending on his breastfeeds and naps but he does have banana every day so it could be that. Only a problem in the last 6 days though strangely.

Upon having a good look at the 💩 (motherhood is so glamorous) I saw the ever present brown squiggles from bananas and whole raisins. Maybe he has too much fruit

2 meals plus snacks might be a bit much. The current NHS advice is to start offering solids 3 times a day between 8 and 9 months. He might just be having too much.

Banana used to constipate my eldest DD so maybe cut that back to every 2/3 days. Plenty of fluids and as others have said maybe cut back amount to give his wee body time to adjust to food.

I had this for a couple of weeks with my baby, now at 7months he’s been running fine for a couple of weeks.

Ella’s prune pouches work well, my baby really enjoys them and can eat an entire pouch. Will get explosive reaction occasionally and then will be starving afterwards!

I started off with bannana for breakfast as it’s so easy and he loves it, but worried it was constipating him so now often have pear which he absolutely loves and seems easy to digest!

Avoid banana and egg. Prune pouches are good. I know you are blw but baby can feed them to himself and it’s just another texture. We did blw but DD had prune pouches as needed. Tesco now does their own version for nearly half the price.

Plenty of water with the solid food is only thing that stops my baby being constipated.

She is 10 months and has been eating 3 meals + snacks since 8 months

In addition to all the advice already offered, we found satsumas (or any of that sort of fruit) really helped as well.

I think you're fine offering as often as you are. With BLW the advice is to offer every time you eat (not that I did, couldn't cope with the clean up 😂).

Oh and just an idea, we used to spread prune purée on toast or rice cakes, or mix it in with porridge or porridge fingers. So it doesn't need to just be on a spoon if your little one struggles with spoon feeding themselves and you'd rather not do it.
