Prunes

Hello all!
Baby is 8.5 months old and I’m wanting to give him some prunes to help with his very hard poops.
I was going to use the Ella’s kitchen pouches but then thought he’s probably old enough now to have a dried prune? I’m presuming I just need to soak overnight? If I soak a few, how long will they last in the fridge for?
Thank you!

We don't soak them at all, just use them as they are cut up into porridge usually.

Has your little one got teeth? Mine hasn’t so a little worried he won’t be able to chew on them

Can prunes be frozen? Just had a look st them on the asda app and the bag says to eat within 7 days once opened. Little one won’t eat a full bag in that time! Im presuming best to give just one prune?

We did blw except for ella’s Prune pouches. So much more convent. You can buy tinned prunes which maybe easier to eat.

He’s got allergies and GERD (severe reflux) so have been advised to keep to as natural as possible (nothing tinned as he’s reacted to preservatives) as he’s having allergic reactions to strange things Confused

I may end up giving the pouches a try if he doesn’t do too well with actual prunes.

Mine are 3 and 11 months so have teeth now but both had prunes and many other foods with no teeth. We just store them in the fridge once opened and use them over a few weeks, I've never even looked at best before date. They're dried fruit, the sugar preserves them, there's nothing that will go off in a week.

Thank you @Foggymist

The prune has gone down well! Now to wait at the other end Confused anyway, how many prunes should I be giving little one?

I'd only give one or two at most.

We keep sachets of Ella's Prunes in the cupboard with DC's medicines! They work so well and DC loves them. We probably give one sachet every few days and this maintains soft stools and regularity.

He’s been having just one a day and it seems to have softened things over the last couple days and he’s not struggling like before which is good. Thank you all! Grin

Late to the thread but I soak a whole packet of prunes overnight, then blitz to a puree, then freeze in portions. I mix it into porridge, spread on pancakes, etc.

Smellybears · 11/10/2018 13:19

Thank you! I’ve been chopping one up into pieces and mixing it in with his porridge which has been working well
