3-day-wait rule in BLW?

Hi,

My DS is nearly 6 months old and I am really considering BLW because he shows such a big interest in the foods we eat. However, me and my husband have history of food allergy, I’m also allergic to dust and husband got hay fever. DS is fully breastfed and on the first few months he had mild eczema on his face. Do I still have to give the same foods for a few days before introducing another? Does anyone here have similar experience with similar background like ours?

Regardless of whether you choose to let him hold/explore food himself or feed him with a spoon, the NHS recommends that you wait 24 hours between new foods.

To be honest, BLW is just a name given to a style of feeding which is centuries old.

It's common sense. Sometimes you allow the baby to hold food and to pick it up themselves and other times, you help them.

When you first offer him some solids, it's only an attempt...an introduction. So yes, offer only one food...whether it's some steamed veg or soft fruit...and then wait. Once 24 hours have passed with no adverse affects, you can assume you're safe and add something else to his menu.

Hello!
My little one has cows milk protein allergy and other allergies which we are unsure of so he has been referred for allergy testing. Like his specialist has said ‘he reacts to strange things’.
I have been advised to try each new food for four days before trying something else. This is apparently because babies bodies can take time to show up an adverse reaction. So far he has reacted immediately but I feel much more comfortable trying a new food for four days.
It is a very slow process but then I think to myself that there’s no rush and to do the best thing for my baby.
Good luck!

Sorry I should have said, little one is formula fed, he’s on neocate for cmpa.

Allergies are not different if you BLW or spoon feed. Yiu still need to give 24 hours between new foods, largely so you can identify the source of any reaction.

You do exactly the same but I would get advice on how to introduce the foods you are allergic too. GP will probably advise introducing slowly, all other foods fed as normal. Hay fever, etc is an environmental allergen that most of us are allergic to, so would have nothing to do with food. Both of mine also had eczema (but no food allergies). We did blw and fed as normal, no three day wait. I think if you say were allergic to wheat, the advice would be just to keep an eye on them when you introduce wheat, for example, but all other foods are fine.
