i have, with AK and Lizzie Vanne I wouldn't worry about it, I think those books are more what level of pureed to death the food is than things that babies can't eat because of allergies etc

yes, as you can make it as pureed as you like - some of the recipes say to 'cook veg till soft for younger babies' or 'puree for younger babies'. Check the ingredients are ok for a 6 month old first and then go for it!!

yes it just depends on the babys tolerance for lumps, for choking risk etc.

Also watch out for certain foods that may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction, but that never bothered me to be honest. I always thought that if dd was to have allergies then she would have them at any age.

My dd was really good with finger foods and lumps and progressed really quickly.

the only reason not to give it would be an allergy reason
but then I never pureed anything

Yep, I think the Annabel Karmel book is a prime example of them not bothering to update weaning advice other than to change all instances of "from 4 months" to "from 6 months".

My experience has been that my 6 month old seemed far more tolerant of texture than (I imagine) a 4 month old would be. It doesn't take them 3 months to get used to lumps!

There's at least one blooper in AK actually which proves that the editors did a bit of "find/replace".

Brilliant thank you - I have tried my DD this w/e on solid food for the first time and I think for my peace of mind, I will give her finger foods heavily supervised with my CPR skills at the readiness. She got herself in a minor state over one teeny tiny crumb of watermelon sitting perfectly on the middle of her tongue. Once she has worked out the swallowing 'bits' thing, I will just offer her anything and everything (within reason) I think and see where we end up.
