How much Weetabix for a 7-mo?

Hello,

How much Weetabix can I give my seven-month-old?
Currently he has about 1/3 of one mixed with a bit formula milk a couple of mornings a week.
The health visitor said he could have some every day, but being extra cautious as he had surgery for kidney condition hydronephrosis in May and salt is a big no-no for his kidneys.
Thanks in advance!

Nutribrex is a good replacement, it has about a third of the salt compared to Weetabix.

I wouldn’t worry about salt. A whole biscuit only has 0.05g of salt. By 8 months my son would eat a whole one on his hungry days.

mindutopia · 04/09/2018 17:24

I would give mine a whole one broken in two in a bit of milk so she could easily pick them up. I would say she only really managed to eat about half though.

Honestly, none. Processed cereal isn’t the best food for babies anyway.

If you are particularly concerned about salt, how about full-fat, unflavoured greek yoghurt with some soft fruit, or proper porridge cooked with full fat milk. You can blast the oats in a food processor beforehand to make it a smoother texture before you cook it.

This board is beyond parody. It’s easy, it’s safe, it’s fortified with vitamins and iron. Enjoy.

My 7 month old eats a whole weatabix with full fat cows milk

sophiec123 · 18/09/2018 14:52

I give my daughter a full weetabix (Aldi version) with blue top cows milk and leave it for a minute to go slightly mushy. She almost eats the whole thing, they will stop themselves when they are done, try not to worry about amount, something is better than nothing! Xx

Lauren83 · 18/09/2018 14:54

My 8 month old has one, the nappies are a nightmare afterwards especially if you have a boy!

FartnissEverbeans · 20/09/2018 19:03

That’s true about the nappies! Oatibix doesn’t have the same effect (Mumsnet tip, I can vouch for it too) but I don’t think it’s fortified.

I also leave it to go mushy. A couple of seconds in the microwave helps speed it up - about 10 seconds

RomanyRoots · 20/09/2018 19:08

They do low salt ones OP, usually written in blue iirc.
My ds1 use to eat loads and put on so much weight very quickly once he started on these. I think he had too much though, on reflection.

Livinglavidal0ca · 20/09/2018 19:10

My DS loves Weetabix! He has Tesco own brand which is the same ingredients. From that age I think he had half then a whole at 8 months.

NerrSnerr · 20/09/2018 19:14

I think at 8 Months mine would eat about half but they weren't big eaters.

KMoKMo · 20/09/2018 19:20

A full one here with blue top milk warmed in the microwave. Then a whole piece of toast (minus crusts) afterwards! 🙈

@FartnissEverbeans thanks for the tip I will try that one Grin
