Hi everyone

As my lo is now eating 3 meals a day I’m trying my best I make larger amounts and freezing them so she has lots of choices for when she isn’t haven’t the same as us.

What we are your LO’s favourites?

I batch cook and freeze in ice cube trays so its easy to portion out. Spag bol, cauliflower cheese, fish pie with peas, chicken tomato stew. I made cottage pie earlier today and it was rejected...hopefully a teething blip, I made and froze loads of the stuff! I always have mashed carrot, potato and cheese sauce frozen too. Impossible to cook from scratch every day with my 10 month old monkey hanging off me and always looking for ideas to make it easier!

I’d make “adult” meals which you can mix to the right consistency once defrosted (I made loads of meals but by the time ds1 got round to eating them he wanted more textured food and therefore snubbed said foods).

Favourites were thinking like cottage pie, spag bol, fish pie, soups and stews (again depends on child).

Thank you they all sound like great choices and my lo seems to like everything she eats Smile at the moment!

Roughly how many ice cubes do you give per portion? I worry that I give her too much

Thanks

I would think about what meals you already make that could be modified to be suitable for freezing.

Soups and stews are excellent options. Mild curries and pasta bakes. Savoury muffins or mini veg pasties are great. I used to make a tray of little pasties, then freeze (raw but cooked veg inside), then put in freezer bag and could take out to bake as needed. Quiche was also a popular meal (I bought them though but no reason you couldn’t make mini quiches or buy and freeze in portions).

My most successful batch cooking has been savoury veggie pancakes - just a pancake batter with grated veggies (courgette, carrot, sweet potato - and peas or sweet corn) and a bit of grated cheese mixed in. They freeze really well and are great to take out for lunches because they’re not too messy.

@ToftheB how do you reheat them? I tried microwaving frozen pancakes but they went rubbery, ended up toasting and smothering in butter!

@mummytobabygirl17 how old is you dd? Ds has 5 cubes (they are quite chunky) when he is happy hungry...I do 4 when I know it's going to be a tough meal time and top him up with fruit after. I've started doing more blw foods for lunch but like something I can spoon feed and fill him up with for dinner.

Duh...the clue is in the title!! Same age as my boy then!

Beef or lentil burgers
Fish cakes
Fish pie
Bolognese sauce to have with pasta or boiled/baked potatoes
Veg lasagne
Mild BBQ chicken pieces and veg
Mini quiches
Cauliflower (and broccoli) cheese
Sweet potato mash
Hand pies - savoury filling in short crust pastry, a bit like a pastie
