15 month old is breastfeeding obsessed!

I’m looking for some advice about weaning my 15 month old daughter off breast milk.

She has always loved breastfeeding, is a bit clingy generally, was quite a hardcore bottle refuser. Has never had formula or really any expressed milk.

Yesterday was just the two of us and she was wanting to feed on me pretty much constantly between 3pm and 6pm and pulls at my clothes and cries until I feed her.

She doesn’t feed at night. I work four days a week and on those days she feeds morning and evening. But when I’m with her she seems to need the feeding for comfort. I don’t want to deny her comfort but also think I am at the end of my tether after 15 months!

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you’ve had enough OP I’d give one of the BFing Helplines a call today. They will be able to help you to come up with a plan to stop Smile

Thanks jilted.

It would be good to hear from anyone who has managed to wean a baby who frequently breastfed. When my friends have weaned their children I think they haven’t even noticed!

Mine were equally obsessed at that age. I did wean later and mine were totally different. We cut DS down to twice a day and just told him “no we don’t do that now, we do that at bedtime” and he was happy with that, usually with a drink and snack added Smile

DD was much more resistant. With her I picked one seat to be in and if she asked, I said we only BF there and then just never sat there.

I read recently that someone was having success with offering nice alternative drinks, so some scrummy hot chocolate made with milk or homemade milkshakes, I make mine with milk, banana and frozen berries or yiu might even want to try offering a homemade ice lolly.

Thanks Jilted!! Am I naive to think if I can hang on for a few more months it might be easier to wean her as she gets more independent?! Or will she just get more stubborn...?!

Not naive at all but it’s entirely upto you. What you’re experiencing now is totally normal at this age. There are things you can do to ease the demands, like distraction or going out or you can just put on your favourite tv programme and gobwith the glowxas it were Smile

Only you can decide if it’s time to wean Smile
