Baby rice

I've started weaning my 23 week old baby daughter using baby rice initially. How long should I continue with the baby rice before I move on to the puréed vegetables?

No point to baby rice, crack on with the veggies.

schopenhauer · 20/08/2018 22:38

I’d go straight to vegetables. Baby rice has negligible nutrients and may contain certain toxins so isn’t a great thing to give babies.

Good to know. I'll start puréeing tomorrow. Thanks for the advice

If she's ready to eat then you don't need to bother with pureeing. Soft cooked vegetables will be fine.

Imo baby rice is polyfilla not baby filler!!

Enb76 · 20/08/2018 23:00

I wouldn’t feed baby rice to my enemies. Vile stuff.

BigBlueBubble · 20/08/2018 23:02

What do you give babies for breakfast then, if not baby rice? Mine can’t have eggs or wheat.

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 20/08/2018 23:04

Mine didn't like baby rice. We did porridge with fine oatmeal.

Bobbiepin · 21/08/2018 22:24

@bigbluebubble if your LO has dietary restrictions then go for it but there are other better options if you have the choice. FWIW my dd has weetabix with fruit for breakfast, although I realise that is not helpful for you. Do oatibix have wheat in them?

Enb76 · 22/08/2018 13:07

bit of banana, yoghurt - I'm assuming you're not replacing entire meals yet so it doesn't need to be porridge looking. You could go with polenta sticks instead of rusks etc...

ShowOfHands · 22/08/2018 13:12

You can give anything you like for breakfast. Same as an adult who can't have eggs or wheat. The beauty of weaning happening from 6 months is that you can feed most things, within reason. No honey or whole nuts and careful on the salt/sugar.
