Pouches

Anybody use pouches for weaning?

Ive been using the Asda organic pouches and daughter loves them! Have tried a couple of Aldi pouches too but they don't do savoury ones. Bought cow&gate jars, daughter liked the beef casserole and that was it out of 10 different flavours Grin

We are trying to do mainly homemade but just isn’t possible everyday so we have pouches at the ready for when needed. Agree the asda ones seem to go down really well with LO and a good price!
We find the Heinz organic ones best but they tend to be more expensive so always keep eyes open for offers!

Oh haven't tried the Heinz ones so I'll have to try them and see if she likes them!

I found the jars to be a bit.. wet/sloppy, unlike a purée with a bit of texture.

I'm in the early stages of weaning but do you have any tips? I'm currently just doing one meal a day, mainly evening time(dinner) so she can get used to it. When did you find you moved onto more meals/less milk if you are already at that stage?

You are right starting out with offering solids just once a day at first OP. The current NHS advice is to move to 3 meals between 8 and 9 months so there’s no rush.

Once thing to look out for when buying pouches and jars is the protein content, some are as little as 6%. I’m not judging though, my first had a lot of jars Smile

We just started on really plain veg based purée for first week or so once a day. Then just judge how you feel it’s going, my LO loved food and just sat there with mouth open for more, so we began to introduce meats/fish/flavours gradually over the following two weeks, then we upped to breakfast and dinner meals (only small portions generally of whatever we are having blended up) with some fingers foods (pita bread/bananas/soft cooked veg etc) and now he’s just over 7 months we’re going to do small lunch bits too.
Best tip would be to just take it easy, don’t stress if they don’t eat, go at their pace, and keep milk feeds as normal.

Oh yes I plan to cook my own food eventually, just uses pouches for first tastes etc. I haven't looked at the protein contents so I will do from now one.

One more question, do you guys give the whole pouch or half? I've been giving half but don't know if I'm being tight 🙈

My LO will rarely eat a whole pouch yet, we generally go with half and save the rest for next day. Apparently they have good appetite control when young so they’ll stop eating when they’re full so just go by their lead. My LO does vary eating loads some days and only a little the next!

My DS also loved the beef casserole jar! The only one that went down a treat! We mainly use the Ella’s kitchen pouches or some of the aldi ones. I agree with the jars being really runny so I am trying to stick to pouches. We have just reached 6 months but started a few weeks ago and DS has breakfast and dinner. I’ve started to give a full pouch each time now but obviously stopping if he has had enough. I don’t think the heat isn’t helping as he seems to be having a few off days. In the beginning half a pouch was more than enough. I have tried introducing some finger foods alongside but he seems more interested in playing with it atm. Funny how everything he shouldn’t put in his mouth still finds it’s way there very easily! Grin just let your baby take the lead they will let you know when they want more.

I have read that they are half as nutritious as home pureed food. Unfortunately, my baby prefers the pouches to Momma's lovingly prepared purees- even though I try to replicate some of the flavours.
