CMPA GERD meal help. I’m being daft!😳

Evening all!
I’m a confused FTM, little one is coming up to 7 months old, severe reflux (GERD) and has CMPA. He’s on gaviscon in every bottle, 10mg Losec MUPS and Neocate milk.
Feeding nurse advised to try one food at a time for minimum four days which I’ve been doing. Did give early weaning a try but stopped and came back to it and it’s been just over 4 weeks. He has breakfast and tea. What I’m wanting to know is with meals such as toast, do I not give a spread? But then I can’t give him spread just by itself?! Same with lentils, do I give those by themselves mushed up? I’m trying to get my head around meals (sandwiches etc) and have got myself worked up worrying that I’m going to have to try each ingredient by itself for four days before combining into a recipe. Trying to find dairy free and tomato free pasta sauces and that’s what also got me thinking about having to try each food separately. It’s been easy so far as I’m giving root veg. He’s fine with white potato, sweet potato, carrots, cauliflower, swede, pear (his favorite), weetabix and I’ve just done day two of chicken. I was going to try egg but I’m going to hold off until I see his nurse (although she isn’t that great and I get more help posting on here!).
I apologise for sounding stupid, I just need a little direction. Thank you!

I’d try the egg if you want to but try it on a Monday morning when the GP is open and LO has got all day to recover if they have a reaction.

Can’t help on the spread/toast debate though sorry Smile

Sorry Smelly if I’m right elevating myself.

Smellybears · 26/07/2018 21:47

Hi Jilted! 👋🏻 You advised me the other day regarding the egg. He actually still has a raised rash on his leg from his vaccinations ages ago so that’s why I’m holding off. There’s egg in one of the vaccines isn’t there?

My understanding of weaning (a child without the issues you have) was that once you have introduced a food, and its been ok, you can add stuff to it. So, plain bread for 4 days, then bread (or toast!) with spread. If there is a reaction, you can be fairly sure it is the spread, as the bread has been ok previously.

Pasta sauce could be interesting..... home made (so cheese free) pesto? Roasted pepper or butternut squash based sauces might work.

Oh my god I told you I was daft! That suddenly makes sense now regarding the toast then add spread 😂
Next question, bread! What’s the deal with whole meal/white/brown/seeded. We normally have Asda Multiseed bread which I’ve checked and hasn’t got any milk in. But, from reading (scaring myself) other forums and advice on google, there is so much conflicting information! Don’t feed baby seeds, don’t feed white bread, don’t feed whole meal, don’t give too much fibre, seeds are ok, only give white, no only give brown AARRGGHHHHH! I’m letting it get me worked up which I know I shouldn’t but I just don’t want to see my boy in so much pain like he used to be when he was on ‘normal’ formula, it was heart breaking, I don’t want to cause that much pain and discomfort by picking the wrong foods.

*right elevating should read repeating Blush

If I remember rightly you feed them white bread as the fibre in other breads fills them up too much and stops them getting enough calories.

And yes, there’s egg in some vaccines, so you might want to try him with a little bit firstly then just give a safe food after.

I’ve found some dairy free white bread so I will give that a try! Specialist said seven months is fine to give bread, have you any experience giving bread at this age?

It’s superseeded extra special we normally eat. Looking at it it does look very seedy! OH will be pleased we are going back onto white bread!

Mine had bread from 6 months (without spread, as we were dairy free too).
Make sure the egg is well cooked.
Not too much fibre as it fills their tiny tummies.

Hi,

I have I.D twins (who turn one next week) one has CMPA and the other has a mild egg allergy.

My twin with CMPA also has terrible reflux however now he is on solids the issue has pretty much resolved!

At the beginning I was very frightened about
Giving him food, we found some ella kitchen pouches which were dairy free for the first week or so to get us started but now we do all home cooking. It’s really easy to whip up sauces from scratch so I would suggest doing that? I never really cooked well before having my twins but absolutely love cooking them dress home cooked meals now.

They both eat a mainly dairy free / egg free diet as it’s just easier for me to prepare the same meals. They eat everything, not fussy at all. We started with purée and moved to finger foods when they showed interest at about 7 months.

We cook a lot of stews, casseroles, chilli, spag bols, rice dishes, curries, risotto, fish, roasts, pasta dishes.

As snacks we mainly give them fruit, veg or raisins.

With regards to bread and spread I found my boys could handle bread from an. Early age as they would just suck on it. We were advised to use batolli spread (incorrect spelling I think) as it’s milk free and the boys have got on fine, we even use it now. There is also a dairy free cream cheese called violife which is really yummy, we tend to pop it in sandwiches. Tesco do a good range of dairy free yogurts that we give them :)

I know it seems stressful and you will be anxious but it gets so much easier. We always make sure we batch cook all meals to make sure we have a stock pile for the days we can’t be bothered to cook.

Also there’s a good CMPA weaning fb Page if you are on face book xxx

@Ella thank you so much Flowers
Good to know about the cheese spread, I will have a look for that. I’m going to go to asda today and get some inspiration, have a nosey in the fridges for some dairy free produce. I’ve checked the ingredients for Bertolli already as that’s what we have anyway, unfortunately milk is listed in the ingredients.
I have noticed an improvement regarding his sickness but he’s still bad some days, yesterday was one of them!
Have you any recipes for a milk and tomato free pasta sauce please? I see @DunesOfSand has said pepper or squash based so I’m going to have a look.
