Anyone would think DD2 is my first, she isn't but i weaned DD1 on jar food and am adamant I wont be doing that again this time.

DD2 is 26 weeks - I started weaning about a week ago - she is so far having her usual milk feeds throughout the day along with either carrots & swede or cauliflour & parsnip once a day. She has so far gotten on really well with this, she is taking the food great and seems to really be enjoying it.
When should I introduce her onto more food ? She has started waking an hour earlier each morning and as much as i try to give her more milk throughout the course of the day she just plays with it and wont take any more than usual.
I tried her on banana yesterday but she wasn't very keen and pooed for britain afterwards.
Basically what I need help with is when to introduce her onto more food and what other things can I be giving her - she's probably a bit bored with carrots, swede, cauliflour and parsnip

Thanks everyone - I feel much better about this now.
DD2 has had butternut squash and chicken for lunch today and have made her carrots & swede for dinner.
Tried her on a bit of pasta last night (was too scared to give her alot so I gave her one twist) she loved it - sat sucking away on it.

Anyone got any other idea's/recipes so I can make sure she doesn't get bored ? Are rice cakes a good idea as a snack ?

Have just had a look at your site Aitch - it's fantastic - I seriously didn't realise I could give me 6 month old all of that stuff. I seriously thought everything had to be pureed at this age (like I said, anyone would think DD2 is my first).

cheers. tbh you probably weaned dd1 when the guidelines were four months, so purees would have been more age appropriate for her. it's only now that the guidelines are for 6 months that it's easy to start out with finger food and miss out the mush. the fact that hvs and books are now recommending 6 months and still talkng about purees is what the americans might call a bit of a 'disconnect'.

That's true Aitch - DD1 is nearly 3 and she was weaned at 4 months.
I can't wait to try her on these new things - how sad my life is

it is a laugh, really, so long as you can keep in mind that milk is the main food source, so no cutting back or getting disappointed if the baby doesn't immediately take to self-feeding. some babies take a while, they may just want to lool or play with it for a while. don't stress it, just keep giving as much milk as they request and they'll soon get the hang of the solids.
