So I’m starting weaning my baby next week and don’t know how..

So he has milk every 3 hours, so from next week when he wakes do I give still give him his morning bottle then do I give him baby rice an hour later or replace his next bottle with baby rice in 3 hours?

No you don't give food instead of milk, it Is in addition in order to give new tastes and textures. What age is your baby?

I wouldn't bother with baby rice, it's not nutritional at all- if baby is suitable for BLW I'd just go straight for that if over 6 months - or if not just a bit of puréed /broccoli

Always give bottle first and then solids an hour after. It's just for new tastes first so ditch the baby rice and start with a different vegetable each day.

He’s 4 months he has a milk allergy so been told to wean him early. So if he has his first bottle at 6:30 give him blended carrot or other veg at half 7?

If you've had medical advice to wean early I would ask their advice as to what to feed and when to feed it. The problem with giving things like baby rice and pureed veg is that they contain fibre so make the baby feel full but don't contain the calories or nutrients of milk, which he still needs at four months.

Kathjax · 26/05/2018 19:23

Don’t you mix it with his milk?

Usually start weaning with 'lunch' and it's just a couple of teaspoons

If you're being told to wean early, you need medical advice on how to do so!

It's not true that baby rice has 'no nutrition at all'. For a start, it's fortified with iron which is incredibly important - iron deficiency in infancy has been linked to lower test scores once children start school.

I didn't use baby rice when I was weaning DS but I've changed my mind now that I know a bit more about baby/toddler nutrition and will be making use of it next time.
