Hi everyone
If your baby is Bottle fed have you changed to the follow on milk once they have reached 6 months? I’ve read mixed reviews but was unsure

Thanks

Hi, I did with my son, then at 1 year I switched to toddler milk.
However professionals and the majority on here will tell you there's no need to switch to it.

No need to, but you can if you want. Follow on milk is basically formula companies way of getting round the advertising ban on infant formula.

Hi,
I was thinking about posting this as well. My LG is 8 months we've followed advice and stayed on the 1st formula but the next stage does have a little more iron which is why I'm confused? My thinking was if your little one is eating well may not need to switch but mine isn't eating much still, doesn't like being spoon fed and when left with finger foods is really not swallowing much, so I'm thinking maybe I should switch? It's all so conflicting. But I did read first steps nutrition and on formula again it said not to change as well.

I changed at 6 months (DD was combi fed until then). I've not read a huge amount but the dark blue aptamil we were using was £13 and the light blue follow on is 2 for £18 in asda so it was partly a financial decision too. She's thriving and statutory pay is going a little further so we're all happy.

Ebony The extra iron isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Baby won’t digest most of it anyway. If you’re worried about your baby’s iron intake, it’s much better to feed iron rich foods and cook in an iron pan. Have you worked out what she’s getting from her current formula? The recommended amount is 7.8 mg per day. Do you give her any fortified food too like ready Brek or white sliced bread?

This is a good article on follow on milks and iron too.

Not saying you shouldn’t do it much much better to know your stuff before making a decision Smile

@JiltedJohnsJulie thanks for the info 🙂 and that makes complete sense to stay on the first formula, just wish the information was more readily available. These articles always terrify me as I wish I had managed to breastfeed 😥 but having said that's she perfectly fine and healthy. I just worry about all these studies and try avoid reading them if possible. On the food front, I'll do more white bread as we make almond bread at home so not much shop brought bread is given and I give her porridge oats for breakfast once or twice a week. Otherwise she has fish twice a week and meat normally blended mince around once a week. Appreciate your help x

Don’t beat yourself up about not Bfing, like most women you probably had awful support Smile

Thanks @JiltedJohnsJulie ... I thought I was ok, but 8 months on its still a complete struggle good days and bad days. I guess once she's on solids it will be be easier to put this behind me.. yes bad set of circumstances including labour/ emergency c section that put me on a course to eventually bottle feeding 😥 xx

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/05/2018 20:11

The labour and birth can have such a huge effect. Never think you’re the only one Thanks
