Baby drinking water or juice

Mummytobabygirl · 01/05/2018 11:29

As the weather is starting to warm up (hopefully) wink I was worried my 6 month old daughter my get dehydrated in between feeds. I spoke to the health visitor at the clinic and she said cooled boiled water is fine for her to have or the baby spring waters with a hint of juice is ok too. Has anyone else tried their little ones on the Heinz or Hipp organic juice & water? X

I would stick with plain water. Try to steer clear of juices.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 01/05/2018 11:31

Dc4 is 18 months and drinks water

He has had juice on rare occasions when we are out and on holiday when it was very hot and i was keen to get lots of fluids in him but usually fine with water

arbrighton · 01/05/2018 14:09

no need for boiling it after 6m, just plain, straight from tap into sippy cup.

Toasttea · 07/05/2018 23:12

Stick with water!

Wolfiefan · 07/05/2018 23:13

Water.

ethelfleda · 11/05/2018 12:04

My 6mo DS has been having tap water in a sippy cup. Didn't want him getting used to drinking anything sweeter

MyKingdomForBrie · 11/05/2018 12:05

My 20mo dd has tap water and has done since she started weaning. She’s obsessed with her water cup!

dementedpixie · 11/05/2018 12:08

Tap water is fine as a drink from 6 months so no need to boil it. I would avoid juice

Fromage · 11/05/2018 12:10

Water. Not juice. I'm surprised a health visitor is recommending juice tbh. Hmm

Hobnobsarenotfordunking · 11/05/2018 12:12

Plain water only for my 18 month old. I would never introduce juice to a baby.

SarahSiddons · 11/05/2018 12:13

Water. No need for juice. And we just used tap water after 6 months.

nomorespaghetti · 11/05/2018 12:14

Water, definitely. The one thing i feel good about re my two year old's diet is that she drinks water and not sugary juice. She eats enough biscuits and cakes to make up for it tho Grin

Rockandrollwithit · 11/05/2018 12:15

Stick to water. My DS1 is almost four and drinks only water. He has juice at parties etc but genuinely isn't bothered about it as he is so used to having water.

DS2 is eight months and also has only water.

DuchyDuke · 11/05/2018 12:15

If you introduce sweet things when they are young and teach them how to regulate intake AND practice great dental hygiene then I don’t see the problem.

Flisspaps · 11/05/2018 12:16

Just tap water is fine. God knows why you've been 'advised' to boil it, this is the sort of guff that stopped me bothering with the HVs

bobstersmum · 11/05/2018 12:19

@fromage, I'm not surprised by the advice given by hv. I was told with my first because he was very hungry at 4 months old he was having too many bottles, and putting too much weight on! And to give him baby juice instead!! I didn't, and he levelled out. In fact he's like a rake now at 5 years old.

serenmoon · 11/05/2018 12:25

I'm really surprised a health visitor recommended juice. Mine was very clear that I should only give water, and that normal tap water was fine after 6 months.

EdWinchester · 11/05/2018 12:27

I’m surprised a hv recommended juice. I wouldn’t dream of it.

I’d give tap water.

Fromage · 11/05/2018 12:29

You're right, bobstermum. I shouldn't be surprised - sadly, crap advice from health visitors is something I have a lot of experience with. Glad you didn't listen to yours either.

AmazingPostVoices · 11/05/2018 12:30

Juice is very bad for their teeth. Stick with water.

Rainatnight · 11/05/2018 13:53

Sooooo, I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that when the weather's VERY hot, keeping them hydrated can be a real worry, and I've been known to supplement water with juice. And watermelon, and, shock horror, fruit ice lollies.

My caveat to that is that DD was nearly 1 for last year's hot weather, and we adopted her at 8 months old, so I have no experience of 6 month olds.

Mummytobabygirl · 12/05/2018 23:19

Thanks for all your advice it was a different HV to normal that was at the clinic that day and I had previously read that water didn’t need to be boiled after 6 months but then started to doubt myself, I wasn’t sure about water with a hint of juice, there’s so many different things out there for little ones you never know what is good or bad for them especially when some of them say from 4 months. Water it is :)
