So, I've held off weaning until 6 months, but how quickly can I introduce new foods?

Gaaah, so here I am following the guidelines, and confused as heck. All of the books seem to assume, despite everything, that you are weaning at 4 months.

So, even though dd is 6 months, do I still have to only introduce one new veg every few days? And how long for? And, in a BLW stylee, when can I start on rice cakes and crusts as well as sticks of veg?

I am completely drawing the line at pears for two weeks solid a la Babywhisperer, as we'll both be bored to tears, and also not touching baby rice, on the grounds that I wouldn't eat it if you paid me, so don't see why she should. But beyond that, don't have a clue. Any help/hints/places where I can find the answer?

I assume you've already got Aitch's blog in your Favourites...

BLW stylee, unless you have specific allergy related reasons to avoid certain foods, you can introduce what you want when you want.

This is with the obvious exception of whole nuts, honey etc - follow the general advice about foods (eg think it's no shellfish till a year). If you look on Aitch's blog (babyledweaning.com) there's a link to a 'good weaning guide if you ignore the puree bit'!

Remember that with BLW she may not eat much to begin with, give a variety of foods at a time and enjoy! If she refuses something, keep having it on the plate, or as she becomes more adventurous cook it in a different way.

Hi 2 cats. My understanding is that you should start fairly gradually...by that I mean fruit and veg purees only for a week or so...although I wouldn't be tense about offering different kinds, before moving to fish/chicken etc

I offered veg and fruit stuff to pick up at the same time. She wasn't very good at manipulating them at 6 months but enjoyed the challenfe and some got eaten!

As far as I know the only no-nos are honey, nuts and anything likely to give them a bad tummy like uncooked egg/shellfish.

I held off weaning until 6 months and then after the first week of so we were pretty much into everything. The only caveat is that if you have allergies in the family you might be wary of dairy and gluten....no such issues here, and now at 10 months, dd LOVES to chew on a bit of bread as a starter!
