She sounds like a nutter. He sounds absolutely normal.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/05/2007 15:32

Deep breath. Count to 10. Don't visit your hv again, or if you do, lie to her .

What centile is he on for height? Did she consider this at all, to see if he was in proportion?

lemonaid · 14/05/2007 15:35

She is a dangerous loon. He is fine. Stop taking him to baby clinic, he's obviously a happy and healthy little chap.

Kif · 14/05/2007 15:36

nutter

MrsBadger · 14/05/2007 15:36

tish and bosh

she is mad

avoid her

Arriety · 14/05/2007 15:37

My stupid hv told me much the same at dd2's 6 month check. She was 28 weeks old and I was told she should have no more than 18oz milk a day in 2 or 3 feeds, 3 meals including 2 weetabix for breakfast, and 3 snacks! She's on the 80th for weight and 98th for height but even so she'd only been being weaned for 3 weeks.

I was also very angry, mainly with myself for going in the first place but I wanted the bookstart books!

Mind you this is the woman who told me I had to join the library for both kids so they had id. What, for when we send them down the pub to get rounds in?!

Lilymaid · 14/05/2007 15:40

This isn't scientific but my DS1 was a fat little pudding at that age. Now aged 20 and 6' 2" tall he is as thin as a rake - in fact underweight. He crawled and walked at fairly average times too. He did like his mum's milk!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 15:47

Bloody loony HVs, they give a bad name to the many priceless ones out there

He sounds like an absolute star. Btw, my nephew had a very noticeably flat head but it started to sort itself as he got more mobile and spent less time lying on his back.

He's 14 months now, has a lot more hair and his head looks perfectly normal.

Tommy · 14/05/2007 16:13

for goodness sake....... What is the matter with some HVs?

Surely most babies of this age would have 4 milk feeds? (at least?) Does she realise that weaning is from 6 months now?! Agree wioth others - don't bother going anymore - I didn't see the HV again after DS2's 8 month check cos she spouted such nonsense

hayes · 14/05/2007 16:15

I only took my little ones to be weighed when they were very little. Once I knew they were thriving I could see they were gaining weight and happy so didn't bother going back until the usual check ups.

Mum2FunkyDude · 14/05/2007 16:17

for what its worth

my ds at birth 9lb4
26 weeks 21lb
31 weeks 22lb
38 weeks 23lb
50 weeks 24lb

He followed the 91st curve all the way and is on 75th height.

He is now 17months and weighs 28lb6

AND he was not BLW and he drank up to 32 oz of milk a day until about 8 months! He started walking at 11 months, he is now running, climbing and thin!

cece · 14/05/2007 16:19

I always used to lie to my HV

Just ignore her and even better don't go at all!

Lio · 14/05/2007 16:21

Am on 2nd baby and it is a revelation to me that I don't have to see a hv ever ever ever if I don't want to. Hoorah!

cece · 14/05/2007 16:23

BTW my DS was above the 98th centile and walked at 10 months.

KristinaM · 14/05/2007 16:25

stop going to the Hv. she is a nutter

sniff · 14/05/2007 16:25

my little dd 9th percent didnt sit up till 8 1/2 months and she is 1 in 2 weeks still doesnt crawl

stop going I did all LO are different and your ds sounds fine to me

Rantum · 14/05/2007 16:29

Anyway, I thought that it was almost impossible to overfeed a bf baby??

Surely that is the point of feeding on demand - the mother produces the right amount of milk to meet the baby's needs. Or did I misunderstand?

Bethbe · 14/05/2007 16:29

At 6 weeks old my HV suggested that my exclusively bf LO needed to see a dietician because he was gaining too much weight!!! WTF?

Completely ignored that advice!

edam · 14/05/2007 16:30

Before you start giving him weetabix, you might want to check out the salt content - I've got a feeling it's very salty. Which is clearly not good for a baby. Your HV obviously comes from the 'what ludicrous things can I tell mothers today' school of HVing.

lemonaid · 14/05/2007 16:31

No, you understood. The HV apparently didn't .

I mean, if you really really really put your mind to it and try very hard from day one you can, just about, overfeed a bf baby, but you'd be feeding a darn sight more often than four times a day at 6 months.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/05/2007 16:32

your babe sounds normal, your hv, in my personal experience sounds pretty normal too.
sometimes they talk absolute crap.
both my kids were huge at birth. ds1 was skinny and long though and still is but ds2 is a little porker. i dont take him to clinic.
if she wants to see him, she rings me and then i take him down.

i have been told ds2 needs a 'diet', i was told ds1 was a bit 'abnormal' as he never crawled, he just got up and walked, i was told i had to do cc if i wanted a normal life, was told bfing didnt matter....

those few are my persoanl favourite corkers...

stleger · 14/05/2007 16:44

Maybe her scales are faulty! Move quietly away from the clinic...

LadyTophamHatt · 14/05/2007 16:53

if I was prime minister I'd make all baby clinics have aself weigh room like mine does.

I never have to see the HV because I go and weigh him when ever I like.
The room is open whenever the surgery is so I could go 10 times a day 5days aweek if I wanted.

I'm telling you it's the best thing!
