My 6 month old has been weaned for 3 weeks and not liking it! I’ve doing 2 meals a day brekkie and dinner (brought this in last week). He doesn’t cry but he just stares into space and won’t open is mouth if I try to spoon feed. I’ve tried to give him some finger food but most of it slips out of his hand and he gives it a lick and then gives up ? I’ve tried porridge yoghurt pear avacado for brekkie and for dinner the usual of carrots peas parsnips butternut squash etc....should I keep trying new flavours or trying things he had a go at last week but wasn’t very impressed with!

I usually do bottle 7 ounces and then brekkie an hr later and for dinner it’s after a nap and 1.5-2 hours from a 7 ounce bottle bottle.

No sure where to go from here. I’m thinking of doing a mix of spoon and blw as sometimes he will put the spoon in his mouth although today he just stared at the spoon once he realised there was pear and porridge on it!

Sounds totally normal. DS refused to be spoonfed and mostly played with finger food for the first month. Some babies take to food straight away but for a lot, it's a totally new skill that takes a bit of getting used to.

I would keep offering different things as he's still experiencing different tastes and textures even if very little gets eaten. Eat with him as much as possible and let him try things from your plate. Now he's 6 months, try other foods besides fruit and veg - we had our breakthrough with toast, yogurt, meat, cheese, pasta and egg. Then once he'd got the general idea of eating and realised food is nice, he was much more interested in trying more foods including fruit and veg.

Thanks Cornish. Did u do blw then? They don’t seem to actually eat much this way?! He was happy chomping on a brocolli floret for ages but nothing went into his tummy I’m sure!

Yeah, we did blw by default! Nothing much seemed to go in initially and it was a bit depressing. But it does get better - at 7 months he started getting really excited by certain foods and trying to grab them from our plate. Around 9 months he began eating fairly consistently at meals and cutting back on milk.

Oh and you'll be surprised how much actually goes in - look out for bits of broccoli in his nappy Grin It's great that he's showing interest by gnawing it; the quantity eaten isn't important at this age, it's all about getting them used to the idea.
