Not liking cows milk from a sippy cup

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone has some advice.
My daughter is 13 months old, and I've weaned her off of the bottle now, she was taking formula and then cows milk for a short while from the bottle. Now she won't drink it from a sippy cup I can tell she doesn't care much for it, when she did take it from the bottle she never really seemed to enjoy it much.

Can I flavour it with anything safely to make it more appealing when it's warmed up?

Thanks if you can make any suggestions!

Smile

will she take other drinks from the cup? If she's getting enough fluids and doesn't like milk you could just stop giving her milk- there's plenty other ways of making sure she gets enough calcium.

You’ve could try Nesquik or vanilla essence. The recommended daily minimum is 300 ml but that can include milk in food. Could you give her porridge in the morning and a yoghurt at some point?

Like Dark says, if she’s not getting enough milk it’s not really a worry as long as her diet has enough calcium but I’d also make sure she has enough good fats. Girls can have oily fish twice a week so try making fish cakes made with tinned salmon with bones, sardines or mackerel on toast etc. These will give both fat and calcium Smile

I would not be adding sugary nesquick. You DD needs 350g of calcium a day. DD gets it from milk on cereal and 2 yoghurts a day as she rarely drinks milk.

Have you tried dairy alternatives. Oatly barista is often considered to be very good.

DS used to be weird about this too but he's 17 months now and he'll drink it ok.

I still use bottles though, out of habit.

Exactly the same happened with my DD2. She's 7 now and still not overly fond of milk - wouldn't drink it neat. I agree do not add nesquick! I just made sure she had yogurt, fromage frais and cheese as snack. Yes to porridge made with milk (she likes). As long as you offer plenty of alternatives for calcium. Upside: she's a great water drinker.

Weaning a 13 month old off a bottle? I have a 13 month old and didn't know people did it so early.

ChiBella23 · 21/03/2018 20:34

Thanks everyone!

So she does have yoghurts, cheese and milk in her porridge I try to add it where I can.
I read that I needed to start weaning her off the bottle, and have done.
Yes, she does drink plenty of water! 👍🏼

Would she take it cold?

ChiBella23 · 02/08/2018 03:51

No she won't take it cold.
Did I wean her off the bottle too early?

HV and dentist advise to wean off bottles when they get to one.
