I have a 1 year old baby who is BF and has been eating solids since they were 6 months old. When my baby was only a few weeks old I had trouble BF her so gave her bottles while I expressed and tried to get her to BF. Now I am having the oposit problem and she will not take a bottle. I've tried giving her milk in a sippy cup but she will only take a few sips at most and gets easily distracted whereas if she's on the boob she is focussed on feeding and seems to take in a good amount. Unfortunately I go back to work in a few weeks time. Realistically I simply will not have time to express or give her a morning BF (or obviously during the day) - just at night. I'm running out of time before I go back to work and I have no idea what to do - any suggestions??

Also just to add I was really ill a few weeks ago with mastitis - I'm really keen to avoid that again if possible!

You don't need to do anything. Cows milk isn't a necessity, it's simply a recommendation as it can be an easy way to get calcium into their diet. If they have other sources of calcium then don't worry about cows milk.

Regarding breastfeeding, they are amazingly good at just adapting to what is available. She may want to feed more in the evening/night for a while to make up for not having a morning feed.

Thanks for the reply. It's really reassuring. I don't necessarily mind continuing to BF her at night so will see how things pan out and will make sure I include plenty of calcium rich foods in her diet

I worried a lot about DS1 when he went to nursery and I went back to work. It was fine, he was happy to have water and food at nursery and breastfeed at home. DS2 was exactly the same, and I was a lot less stressed about it all!

Hi, I have a two year old who did the same, completely stopped taking a bottle and when I tried cows milk at 1 he wouldn't drink it.

He gets plenty of calcium rich foods now, cheese and yogurt etc and only drinks water. I BF at night until he was 16 months old and then he weaned himself of it and that was that!
