I want to make some veg purees for my baby - any suggestions for good combinations?

Most people I know look at what's in the Ella's kitchen pouches and copy!

Butternut squash (buy ready prepared frozen from Waitrose) always a winner here with various root veg.

Left over meat from Sunday roasts pureed with carrots and parsnips

I tend to steam whatever veg happen to be in the fridge.

Read up on baby led weaning and save yourself the bother!

Thanks for that super helpful reply Titty Grin

I usually have a good range of frozen veg in the house, hadn't thought of looking at pouches for inspiration! Though I think they tend to all be sweetened with fruit, even the veg ones.

The wonderful thing at this stage is you can get away with anything Grin DD had carrot porridge a couple of weeks ago and demolished it.

Other random mixes that she has had:

Steamed courgette with haddock flakes mixed in

Parsnip and baby rice

Sprouts and baby rice

If you do want to introduce a bit of finger food, pitta bread sticks to dip into pureed aubergine went down well here.

My DS likes swede, carrot and cinnamon.

I'm going to make potato, leek and cheese purée at the weekend.

Red peppers and red lentils is another I'm going to do

Marcine · 02/02/2018 20:06

Ooh I would never have thought of cinnamon.

Mixed spice and curry powder are some other ones you could add aswell

Glassofredandapackofcrisps · 02/02/2018 20:14

Not so much a purée but I used to see what the reduced fruit and veg section had to offer. My baby tried(and loved!) all kinds of stuff I'd never have touched before!

This was both of my boys' favourite when they were wee. It came from a Lorraine Kelly book which I've long since passed on, but this recipe will stay in my mind always...

Cheesy Lentil Savoury

4 tbsp red lentils (60ml)
1 little onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
350ml water
black pepper
50g cheddar cheese, finely grated

Put the lentils and chopped vegetables into a pan and pour in the water. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and the lentils fairly mushy. Purée or mash as necessary, then stir in the grated cheese. This makes about 6 portions. Freezes well.
