Weaning in Greece

Has anyone weaned their baby in Greece? I am so confused!

I understand that in England babies start with baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk but here they are advising me to start with a "vanilla crema". I'm not entirely sure what it is (and someone else told me it is v sweet - don't want to give sweet stuff to my DD). Help!!

And the Cypriot nectarines, so HUGE and juicy and sweet and DELICIOUS. Mmmmm.

i've always wondered if tomatoes from islands and coastal areas taste nicer cos they're already a bit salty?

oh, mwro - my mum is Greek and soon after DS was born she gave me loads of "vanilla crema" type stuff - I sent it right back with her. When I said it was full of sugar she just looked at me strangely. She doesn't get why I didn't wean DS till 6 months, either.

Am also now dreaming of Greek tomatoes and tiropites, thanks to this thread!

Ha ha !!! All these Greek stories are so funny!!! Am glad I am not alone. As yet no-one has tried to give my DD anything weird (apart from cremas) but we'll see!

And...today is a public holiday and I have a big lunch at my in-laws. Am sure the subject of weaning will come up so I am bracing myself! While I don't want to be a snob ("cremas may be ok for your baby but they're not for mine") I do want to see if I can find a sugar-free alternative.

ps You may miss Greek tomatoes and tiropites but Greek apples SUCK - much better in England! And I bet you don't miss the parking and the bureaucracy and the pavements (or lack of) - am always forced to push the carotsi in the road!
