Annabel Karmel food grinder - blade stuck!

This is probably just me being a bit stupid, but for the life of me I can't see how to get the damn circular blade out of the contraption. It did come out briefly yesterday when I forced the main tube down really hard on some stubborn prunes, but after I put it back in (the right way up!) it won't come out again. I can see that it need to turn slightly - is there a knack to this??
I'm having to fill it upside down which isn't really very practical... any suggestions??

Thanks!

Hi min

I just stuck a fork in one of the holes and it came off quite easily. There is probably a better way but I couldnt work it out! hmm

min912 · 24/04/2007 19:32

cheers! I did get it off again by prolonged screwdriver wrangling, but that doesn't seem either practical or safe ... will give it a go with a fork!

Anyone else think that the AK mouli is an utter piece of cr*p? I've just stuck mine on Ebay as I can't be doing with the armache from holding it still with one hand and grinding with the other....

min912 · 26/04/2007 19:13

Well I can't say I'm hugely impressed with it, not just because of it being not easy to dissemble, but also because you can't fit that much in (I think).

I did buy a mouli off ebay secondhand but that didn't work either (stumpy part wouldn't fit in the hole) but the meanie I bought it from won't reply to my complaining emails, grr! (and as I bought it in advance of needing to use it, I've passed the paypal 45 day refund guarantee, boo).

But then hopefully I won't need to be mushing things quite so much for too much longer... fingers crossed!

I'm distinctly UNimpressed with mine. Just tried it for the first time and discovered that it leaked all over the work top. I also found black metallic bits in the parsnip I had lovingly cooked for 25 minutes(!) and then ground up, so had to throw the whole lot away.Am I doing something wrong or is it just crap??

I have managed to get the disc thingy off though- just make sure the middle knob is properly tightened then turn the handle anti-clockwise.

HensMum · 23/04/2008 11:50

I'm not overly impressed with mine either. You really can't get very much in it, it leaks and takes a lot of effort to grind up a little bit of food. Plus, it didn't get the peas and sweetcorn smooth enough, it was still quite lumpy. I'm only going to use it for things like sweetcorn and prunes and use my beloved hand blender for the rest.

Still, how much harm would it do to a baby to have blended sweetcorn? I know the husk is not very digestible but would it just pass through?

EdieMcredie · 23/04/2008 12:09

I like mine for mashing easy stuff for banana and very soft staemed veg but that's about it-anything else is too difficult!!

fairy15 · 23/04/2008 15:46

i liked mine before i came on here & realised all the cons which have never bothered me before but do now. like when i put apricots in it & have to do it so hard & only get a bit out as the rest has got stuck! or when all the liquid comes out of the spinach or when it takes me about half an hour to mouli my weekly batch because it takes such small amounts! yes it is crap!

mrsbigpants · 23/04/2008 16:40

It's really reassuring that it's not just me - I doubt myself quite a lot these days!

I don't know what the etiquette is for these things, but would anyone mind if I sent a link to this thread to Boots customer services? They really should know how bad we're all finding it!

mumofmoo · 23/04/2008 17:13

I'm not particularly impressed with mine.

The ice cube trays aren't much cop either - its virtually impossible to get the lid off if you fill the entire tray.

EdieMcredie · 23/04/2008 18:02

Not sure MBP-You could try it.

Im glad it was only 8 quid as if it had cost any more id be pretty hacked off. If it was bigger and the blade sharper I think it would be better but it's just so small and labourious!! (sp??!!)

HensMum · 23/04/2008 19:02

I like the ice cube trays! Bit of a pain to get the cubes out but I reckon that would be the same for any tray.
I'm just happy that I used my Boots points to get the grinder so it was essentially "free".
I agree Edie, the blade needs to be sharper and the whole thing needs to be about twice the size.
