Avoiding dairy and wheat with allergies in the family

My DH has mild asthma and cat allergy, so I have avoided dairy and wheat for DS who is now 8 months. I've just (durrr! ) wondered about the formula that we've recently weaned him onto though... isn't that dairy?! He has had some toast and yoghurts etc. when we were initally weaning and had no reactions, and has no excema, but I want to reduce the risks of him getting them later. He does have tomatoes - with no outward effects, but they seem to make him poo not long afterwards!
Having browsed for information for hours, I can't find a definitive answer - given that he's not "allergicky" at the moment, so my questions are:
Does formula milk (Cow and Gate) count as dairy?!
How long is it wise to avoid these things to reduce the risk of him developing allergies - given that he's actually had some before (at 6m) without any side effects at the time?

Thanks for your help!

Yes formula milk absolutely does count as dairy, although they do something to the cow's milk I think to make it less likely to cause allergies. Babies with a cow's milk allergy would normally react to formula though, I think. HTH.
